Irwin Groovelock Pliers 2pc Set

This Irwin Vise-Grip 2-piece GrooveLock pliers set is on sale again at Sears for $12.50. The pliers are decently built for the price, and are quite comfortable to use. While not up to Knipex quality, they’re nevertheless well designed and fairly durable.

The set includes 8″ and 10″ pliers, which adjust quickly via a push-button mechanism.

In-store pickup is free, but if you don’t want to bother with the hassle, the set is only a few dollars more at Amazon. We’re not sure when the deal ends, but a similar sale is bound to return around Black Friday or sometime during the following holiday shopping season.

Let me guess, made in China? Not too many years ago, Irwin made products in USA and in fact, I’ve meet people who did work for Irwin during that time. They aren’t working there now sadly though.

Luckily Channellock produces pliers that are 100% USA made are of much higher quality these pliers that likely are made in China.

I challenge you to find push-button adjustable pliers that are made in the USA.

For our money the Knipex 86-03 series of pushbutton plier wrenches are better than anything else we’ve tried and do not have a US Made competitor. I’m equally interested in tools that perfom exceptionally well as I am in country of origin. If I can get a US made tool that out performs its competition – I’ll buy it. We provide Lie-Nielsen (instead of say Veritas) block planes to our lead carpenters – because we think they are as close to the top of the pack as it gets – as well as being USA made. We’ve bought many more Wera Phillips Screwdrivers lately – not because they are German or Czech made – but because we find their tip style grips better than others we’ve tried — and so on.

Not that I am coming to that guy’s defense nor do I work for either company I list, but Wilde recently released a set of flush fastener pliers that utilize a hexagonal screw that can be tightened or loosened with either a hexagonal wrench, screwdriver insert bit or hexagonal screwdriver. These pliers are made in Kansas, Missouri which is part of the United States of America.

Here is a link to distributor named Harry J Epstein which sells these pliers. http://store.harryepstein.com/dailydispatch/2012/11/wilde-flush-fastener-pliers/

These may not be push button pliers in that traditional fashion, but these hexagonal screw driven pliers function the same way push button pliers do, potentially better in some instances.
