The Jonard cable tie holder, model CTH-15, is a neat portable dispenser in both a literal and figurative sense.
It can clip to your belt loop or similar, and its spring-loaded design automatically adjusts to hold a bundle of cable and zip ties for easier storage and dispensing.

It has a 1.5″ opening and max clamping width, and can be used on many kinds of cable ties from 4″ to 24″ in length.

The opening has a rubber ring to help prevent zip ties from slipping out.

It glows in the dark.

This looks like a handy accessory for carrying a bunch of cable ties around. It’s not the only portable holder/dispenser, but seems to be the most convenient.
It might be useful for other types of materials, such as bungee cord cable wraps (see Think Tank “Red Whips” Cable Wraps).
I found many of the same type of zip tie holder on Amazon, almost entirely from no-name direct-to-marketplace brands.

The Jonard has a higher unit cost, but the others require you to buy greater quantities at higher total pricing.
You can also find similar holders for a lot less from direct-from-China online marketplaces.

Neat and cheap enough.
I’ve seen an alternative design being used by a guy wiring a house entertainment system. I think it was this one from Rack-A-Tiers:

Where has this been my whole career? In the powerplant we use cable ties for Lockout/Tagout and usually end up stuffing them in our pockets or a welders leather rod pouch. Figures that the plant is shutting down in 4 months and I won’t be needing one for tagging operations after that but I’m still buying one, just not one for everyone on my shift…

I didn’t know cable tie holders were a thing either. I’m always just taking them out of a bag with a slit near the top.
Eric
Put the slit in the middle of the bag and they won’t fall out!
mikedt
genius!
MT_Noob
Brilliant! Why haven’t I heard this tip before? Going to use this tip today.
Stuart
Place a piece of masking tape (or similar) for reinforcement and use scissors or a knife to make the slit. It’s one of the few social media tip trends that actually seems useful.

Had to buy one. I use a lot of zip ties in the HVAC industry.

Do you think it would work to hold string trimmer line? I have a wheeled, walk behind trimmer that uses 20” or so whips of fat trimmer line. I inevitably need extra whips, especially when I get into some thicker brush. I currently have a piece of wire loom zip tied horizontally to the handle of the trimmer that holds 6 or 8 whips of line. Sometimes they fall out. Would this hold them securely, or does the “head” of the zip tie keep the ties from falling through?
MM
That is an excellent idea! I use precut line on my Stihl FS240 and 560. I carry extra pieces in my pocket but they often fall out. One of these attached to the machine would make keeping spare line at hand super convenient and it could just be unclipped and left in the shed whenever I have a blade mounted instead of a line head.
Scott Davis
I’ll find out on Friday when it comes in and let you know.
fred
It would be interesting to see if machine vibration doesn’t shake them loose. I keep pieces in a plastic 2-part tube that sort of screws together and has a hanging hole at the top. It was the original packaging for a SDS drill bit.
Scott Davis
I got it today and it has rubber teeth(for lack of a better term) that hold one zip tie very securely and has a very strong grip. I think string trimmer line would be held very securely.
Norse
That is awesome! Thank you for the update.

Tradie Bits on Instagram has one just like that and also an aluminum version that looks more heavy duty than just plastic

And as expected, Temu already has their own copy out.
Bonnie
I can almost guarantee it’s the same mold out of the contracted Chinese factory.
PETE
It’s amazing the amount of crap thats on amazon that is the same stuff from temu. As cheap as it is, china is still making a profit lol
Matt_T
Might be the same mold but is it the same material? That could make a big difference to durability.
Mopar4wd
Looks like a plastic version of this one I’ve seen advertised from Australia.

We always just wrapped a Ty-Rap around the bundle of Ty-Raps. Add a little biner or not.
Nate
If you cut the hole in the MIDDLE of the bag they come in, it is its own dispenser. The ties’ own stiffness holds them in by the ends, but if you grab a tie in the middle and pull it out, it bends and comes out just fine.
When I’m working aloft, I just tape the bag to my leg. It rattles less, snags less, and costs nothing.
Nate
Aha! There’s a commercial version of this too: Atlas 46 AIMS Zip Tie Pouch.
That might be useful if you’re getting the ties in 1000-count bags; the bag-as-dispenser trick works best on the 100-count bags. (I keep one around as a dispenser and just refill it from the larger bags.)
MM
I’ve seen a product that works on a similar principle but I can’t recall the name of the maker. It’s a clear plastic tube about 2-3 inches in diameter with dipped end caps. One of the caps has a slit cut in it that you can use to remove ties as you need them. The slit stays closed on its own so the ties don’t just fall out but you can easily reach in and grab one, or squeeze the container so the slit opens and you can shake out several at once.

Viewtainers? https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Viewtainer&tag=toolguyd-20
I had a couple and the lids got degraded over time and became slimy. Could have been a fluke.
MM
Those Viewtainers are nearly identical to what I saw. They had a different name but otherwise the idea was the same.
Nathan
The few I had quickly degraded to a sticky mess as well
eddiesky
@ Wayne R. Me too. I guess I don’t use as many as some of you, but I usually sacrifice one into a lasso for the bunch. However that doesn’t always work with the smallest ones (PC wire looms). I like the idea of the aluminum one instead as others look like a 3D printed version.

I had never seen these before till recently when they popped up on my instagram feed. So I googled them and based on the number of different named companies cranking them out they must have been out there a while. Shocked that it took so long for me to see them.

I noticed that brand does some rebrands of amazon like products. They have a automatic multi meter that turned out to be one but they are selling at a Michigan higher price. I feel these are likely the same idea which dosent inspire confidence in the direction they ate going.
hleb shauchuk
at aliexpres it costs around 2-3 dollars as i remeber
hleb shauchuk
at aliexpress you can find it around 2-3 dollars as i remeber
Mike McFalls
I’ve always just used another zip tie around the zip ties and then I can make it tighter as I use zip ties so that the others don’t fall out but I guess this has a use
mike
Our maint team has used these or this style from https://www.mcmaster.com/1225N11/ for a few years.
Stuart
I haven’t seen that before. Looks like it’s made or also sold by Elecor. https://www.amazon.com/Elecor-Cable-Caddy-Heavy-10004/dp/B08175KSLS/?tag=toolguyd-20

I bought one of these. It arrived today. I doubt that the carabiner that comes attached to this would last three months.
