Kett KSV-432 Vacuum Saw In Use With Safety Gear

Kett’s KSV-432 vacuum saw is a handheld power saw that uses a 2-1/2″ carbide abrasive blade to cut drywall, fiberglass, and plaster. The saw features an integrated cast aluminum dust control port that can be used with a shop vacuum or dust collection system to collect and control dust & debris as the saw cuts.

When connected to a standard shop vacuum equipped with a HEPA filter HEPA filtered shop vacuum*, the Kett vacuum saw allows contractors, plumbers, and other tradesmen to comply with EPA rulings meant to help prevent lead contamination and poisoning during renovations.

    It’s a drill – with a cutting attachment – for $500!

That’s right, it’s priced at about $400-450. To be honest, for that price I’d expect the tool to include a Shop Vac and a HEPA filter.

Still, $450 is a lot lower than the fees (up to $37,500 per day!) the EPA can levy against paid renovators that don’t comply with the new rulings.

The statement “When connected to a standard shop vacuum equipped with a HEPA filter, the Kett vacuum saw allows contractors, plumbers, and other tradesmen to comply with EPA rulings meant to help prevent lead contamination and poisoning during renovations.” is incorrect. To meet the EPA minimum requirements it needs to be a HEPA Vacuum not just a shop vac with a HEPA filter. The difference is $20 for a HEPA filter vs. $500-$1,700 for a HEPA Vacuum. You have gotta love the EPA.

Scott, you’re absolutely correct, thank you for the information. Looking over the literature for the vacuum saw, it explicitly says “HEPA filtered shop vacuum”, which I misinterpreted to mean a shop vacuum with a HEPA filter.

    Thanks for the correction!
