Klein has come out with a new USA-made adjustable length screwdriver, model 32751. It’s got a removable shaft that adjusts from 4″ to 8″, and not only that, the shaft is double-ended with both Phillips (#2) and slotted (1/4″) tips.
The new screwdriver has Klein’s iconic cushion grip, which we would agree is both comfortable and grippy. No, it’s not as ergonomically shaped as some other brands’ screwdriver handles, but it’s not lacking.

After watching the promo video, embedded below, I became aware that Klein built the screwdriver with a proprietary locking mechanism that ensures a solid hold. It is indeed different from the other adjustable length screwdrivers and bit systems that I’m familiar with.
With this one, you pull up on the locking collar to retract the blade further into the screwdriver handle, and press it down to extend the blade out. There’s a “MAX” marking that lets you know when not to extend the screwdriver shaft any further.
Klein says that the adjustable length screwdriver is as durable as a traditional Klein fixed blade screwdriver.
The video also says you get “numerous length choices,” and so you might not be able to lock the screwdriver shaft at just any length. We’ll find out and let you know.

MegaPro has had a similar screwdriver on the market for a few years now, of which I own. It’s called the 15-1 shaftlock that comes with two 6″ extentions that lock/unlock with press of the button. As with all MegaPro sd’s , it also contains the double sided bits (phillips,slotted,torx ,spanner and hex) in the pullout handle. The bits also lock in the shaft to reduce slippage or falling out. I have just about all of the MegaPro sd’s as well as several Kleins and prefer the MegaPro. I think the only advantage Klein has over MP is the cushion grip, but thats just my opinion.

LOVE my mega pros. I prefer my mega pros over everything, I love the large diameter grip to apply vast amount of torque. Although I don’t think the klien and mega pro with the shaft lock are apples to apples. It seems the klien is retractable where as the mega pro has the locking extension that could be misplaced. I could see this klien making it’s way into my tool bag as a replacement for one of my two mega pros that I keep in there.

Made in USA and I must admit, this does seem as if this would really be quite useful. I’ll admit, a small part of me wonders if this tool will ever be locally carried and if this 100% USA made or made in USA of global components?
Either way, I’ve been really impressed with some of items Klein has came out with the last two years.

I don’t think so. Right now there’s just mention of the one blade that comes with the handle.

Odd that they wouldn’t have different bits available especially given that their primary market is still electricians, who use Phiilips and slotted less and less. Their Switch Drive system has always been available with Robertson bits as part of a package so they know that’s what their customers are looking for. A #1/#2 Robertson bit would cover 90% of what I do in a day and a T10/T15 would cover another 8%.
They could just be testing the waters to see if this sells. But since these drivers are the least useful to me there isn’t much interest here.

Have this already. Pretty useful, takes some some getting use to the ways to adjust it. But in all , having the double ends and being adjustable is handy

Electricians use solid flat head screw drivers for chiseling, popping knock outs, prying and piercing into sheet rock and etc. Materials. There’s no way to reinvent what is so useful. All these klein tools are gimmicky and variance copies of other brands. And Klein tools is way out classed by so many top notch copies. I bought needle nose two days by Klein cause I lost my knipex, and no grind match, finish was terrible and tool was stiff (nearly unusable ). I wish they’d stop producing quantity and get back to quality. Until then, knipex and felo are
