Klein Tools has launched another new blacked-out screwdriver set, this time a 6pc set that’s selling for $29.98 online.
These are exactly what they look like – Klein screwdrivers but with black-finish handles and black-finish shafts.

Here’s a quick example of how the new Klein blackout screwdrivers compare to their typical tools.

The new 6pc set, model 85446BLK, comes with 5 screwdrivers plus a magnetizer accessory. The 5 sizes are:
- Phillips #1
- Phillips #2
- Slotted 3/16″
- Slotted 1/4″
- Square #2

The screwdrivers feature Klein’s iconic cushion-grip handles, and marked handle caps to help users identify the sizes at a glance.

Klein doesn’t list the shaft lengths in their documentation, but this product image should give you a good sense for what you get. I’m guessing the Phillips #1 has a 3″ shaft, the cabinet-style slotted 3/16″ has a 6″ shaft, and the Phillips #2, slotted 1/4″, and square #2 look to have 4″ shafts.
They’re made in the USA.
As the set is described as a limited edition, you can assume that supplies will eventually run out. Nobody knows when that will be, but I’m guessing you’ll have some time to think things over.
Price: $29.98

Acme Tools has a couple of Klein Tools promotions right now, such as a “buy more, save more” offer that starts with $15 off $75+.
I bought a set to evaluate, and I do like the color scheme – they look great in person. Just don’t take them to nighttime jobs, dimly-lit attics, or put them down in dark corners. Also don’t place them in the bottom of a dark tool bag. They could be decent as workshop screwdrivers.
Even the magnetizer keychain has black plastic. Don’t drop that, either.
This is a little different from the also-new Lowe’s set, with the difference between a Square #2 in place of the Lowe’s set’s longer Phillips #2.

After the fourth photo, “look to have 4′ shafts“ I think you meant 4”

Oops. That’s a big difference – thanks!

I’ve been a Klein user for decades. Long before the German brands made such obvious and useful inroads.
I don’t want black. Drop one and “where the heck is it”? Not that I’d be saying “heck”.
Hard no.
“Hi-Vis Yellow maybe”…?

Hi-Vis is played out. I like the idea of blacked-out tools as an aesthetic.
I can understand not wanting black sockets in case one drops in the engine bay, but a screwdriver or pliers? If you drop one and can’t find it, you should probably schedule an eye exam.

Most bags, car footwells, pockets on most everything, tool bags, etc., etc., are all too often black. And too many things & doodads are also black.
High viz isn’t usually needed, I think, but there’s way too much black-in-black – don’t need more of it.

Pass on the drivers but I’d like to pick up the black demagnetizer if it’s available separately. I prefer the traditional Wiha block style (I think they’re more effective and consistent than the Klein…have both types) but the Klein is compact and easy to tuck in an overstuffed go bag (and some silicone key fob covers fit great and do a good job at helping it to play nicely with other nearby tools in a bag). The Klein is handy for the small size…simple and easy for screw bits and drill bits that get magnetized in use.

That caught my eye too! I have the demagnetizer in Klein’s normal gaudy orange, and I think it looks better in black.
