Klein Tools has launched a new “2-in-1” utility knife and scraper tool, model 44306.
The new Klein scraper knife allows users to “seamlessly switch between functions, making it ideal for a variety of cutting and scraping tasks.”
Unlike other recent scraper utility knives we’ve seen, this new Klein Flickblade features two separate blade holders.

From the product description, it should be compatible with “universal blades,” whereas the convertible knives require a proprietary blade.
The design looks a little chunky, but relatively compact, and off-the-shelf blade compatibility is sure to be a much-appreciated feature.
On top of that, you get a second angled locking position for the standard utility knife.

The new Klein utility knife and scraper has an aluminum handle and features built-in blade storage. It ships with 3 carbon steel blades.

Klein first launched Flickblade utility knives at Lowe’s in late 2023. Se also: New Klein Utility Knives Appear at Lowe’s. The new scraper looks to be part of a new expansion that also includes a “subcompact” model that’s now available at Acme Tools but not yet listed at Lowe’s.

That’s awesome! If it works with universal blades AND isn’t crazy bulky, it solves the two biggest problems of the existing options. I think I’ll try one of these when I can find them in Canada.
P.s. the “flickblade” button lock makes it questionably legal in Canada, but retailers don’t seem to care (since the fastback is readily available, for example).

OK, this one has me interested. This seems sufficiently novel, and the price is in the right ballpark.
I’m curious how easy it is to close the scraper blade / if it locks in place. I can’t see how both things could be true?

To me it looks like you pry the cover open, rotate the thumb wheel to bring out the blade, then close the cover.
I’m assuming it only rotates so far, locking it in one direction, and once you close the cover the blade holder sits against it, locking it in the other. Assuming that’s the case, I wonder how firmly it locks – but it’s probably fine.

Absolutely. When I say I’m always looking for innovative products, this is exactly what I mean.
None of the ideas are new, but it does something all the current competitor options can’t. Use standard utility blades.
I also really like the capability to run 2 different blades for the different functions. At the very least, it means being able to run a a fresh and sharp blade as scraper, and use dull but still sharp blades for standard cutting actions.
And the dual-blade setup appears to be overall smaller than the spring action blade-flipping mechanical variety, which definitely helps in terms of tool belt placement.
For the lot of whiffs and also-ran’s Klein has been putting out, I definitely like this one as a new and unique option for the same tool!

Wow, I came here to say, “But why???”, but now after I’ve seen all of these positive comments… well now my confusion has shifted from why make this knife to what are you guys using a scraper on so often that this knife excites you so much? I’ve used a scraper maybe three times in the last 20 years. I’d love to know the top three things that you guys use a razor-bladed scraper for!!!

Scraping stuff off, like from my car windows or tile floors. I have a Titan scraper that I use with metal and plastic blades.

In construction there is always a reason to scrape paint, adhesives, caulking, etc. off of a non-porous surface. Having the ability to whip this out would be nice.

So often I end up removing the blade from my fastback, to use it in my unprotected hand as a scraper. Even the dull/back side of the blade cuts into my fingers before long. I’ll spend $20 on this (but not more).

Hmm. I’d say that surely there’s a pocket clip, but there’s no mention of it, and nothing is shown in any of the product photos.
So either it has a pocket clip that’s not shown or described, or the product team didn’t design it with one. I’ll try to find out which it is.

Just got one after ordering form Acme as part of the March Madness tool sale they held last month. Somehow Stuart causes me to buy lots of neat tools! 😉
I like really like it and tried it out for a few days and it has exceeded my expectations. It is a bit bigger and beefier than most knives out there which made it easier to pull out of my jeans pocket. The scraper blade locks firmly into place and works well for small/quick tasks. I also liked the intermediate 135° locking position as it provides just a bit more visibility for some cutting tasks, especially when cutting some Romex down the middle to strip the outer sheathing.
I see a second one in my future at some point… especially if I need a $20 item to push me over a free shipping minimum.
