If you’re looking for something a little different (and less expensive) for use on PVC pipes and fittings, consider the Knipex 81 03 230, which has 25 to 65 mm capacity.These pliers have a different slip joint-style adjustment mechanism.
These PVC pliers are around $50 on Amazon. A plastic-lined-jaws version of these PVC pliers are also available. Although it doesn’t look like it, these pliers are said to have serrated jaws.
First Thoughts
These look pretty handy, but steeply priced. But if you need a unitasker that’s best for working on fittings, tubing, pipes, and similar materials, these look like they’ll do the trick.

IPS (IGARASHI PRYOR) make something similar (WL-270S) as does Proto (J253G) – neither is as refined (IMO) as the ones from Knipex

Certainly looks like the version with the removable plastic jaws are worth it if you can work with the 75mm maximum range. Otherwise the cheaper version is then necessary.
I was about to get a 400mm (16″) Cobra to have for those large pipe jobs (pools etc) but maybe one of these is better?

Totally agree for the reason that they don’t indicate that their tools are not in stock on their website. After a huge wait I had to cancel an order with them, which in itself was a difficult process.

That said, I haven’t placed many orders with them since then. Yes, it’s incredibly frustrating to have to check for stock status for every item before placing an order.
The main complaint then, and now, was they they don’t stock a lot of the tools they list.

I would not hesitate to order from them again, if:
If I need or want a tool, and Chads’ has it for a lot cheaper than other places, or it’s not available anywhere else, and I don’t mind waiting, and I have the time to ask for an ETA before placing an order.
It is my understanding that Chads’ does a lot more business with wholesale customers than consumers.

I have used Chadstoolbox many times without issue, but I must be willing to wait.
I own the knipex pvc pliers, knipex pliers wrench 2x 10 & 12 and 16, channellock 12, 16 & 22 and am looking into the v-jaw channellocks. I use all on swimming pools and they work great. Pliers wrench are by far the nicest and strongest, channellock are the best price for an extremely strong long lasting well built pliers. I would not be withou any of mine including the NWS pliers fantastico and ergo.

I never had an issue with Chads Toolbox – other than a need to wait on delivery. I’ve probably bought many thousands of dollars of Knipex , NWS, Wera and Wiha (when they used to offer the brand) from them for business and personal use. Like some other vendors – I suspect that they keep prices down by not carrying a large inventory with its inherent costs. If you need it right away go elsewhere. They are not Amazon, I don’t think that they pretend to be – but their prices are often very appealing. I do agree that their website would be better if they made an attempt to show what (if anything) is in stock – but even with vendors who do – you sometimes get fooled as stock may change while you are in the process of ordering.

Any recommendation for a cheaper version of this tool? I’m a weekend warrior & cubicle mafia member, so I will not drop $50 for this. At the same time, during the past 6 months, I had to tighten/loosen various pvp/plastic connectors. I had nothing else, but regular pliers and those damage the surface.
So I would love to pick-up a cheap version of these… or I’m open to suggestions on how to protect the fitting while using regular pliers. Cheers.
