Komelon, known for their tape measures, is launching a new folding utility knife.
This won’t be Komelon’s first utility knife, as they already offers snap-off-style knives, but it looks to be the brand’s first modern utility knife of this kind.

The new Komelon folding utility knife has 3 locking angles for precise cutting.

The built-in blade storage compartment can fit 3 replacement blades.
It also features a cutting notch and quick release push-button for blade changes.
Pricing, availability, and finer details (such as the type of pocket clip) are not yet available. Komelon made the announcement 4 weeks ago via social media, and I haven’t seen any retail listings for the new knife yet.
While I don’t see anything innovative about the new Komelon utility knife, I’m a fan of the brand, and am eager to see their take on this style of utility knife.

We bought a lot of Komelon tape measures – not because of thy were superior to others- but because they were good enough to work and cheap enough to not cry about their going missing. Their knives may prove to be similarly qualified.

Same. My most used tape is the 12’/3.5m version. I bought a bunch when I found them for $4.

Hey Stuart, maybe I’m the only one but suddenly I stopped recieving your daily emails. I’ll sign up again but thought I’d mention it in case you might have some software glitch happening. Last one I got was 3/8. Cheers!
Stuart
Thanks for letting me know!
Emails go out at 11am EST.
There were no posts on 3/9 and 3/10 (I don’t always post on the weekend), and the 3/11 post went up after the 11am EST cutoff. Since there were no new posts since 3/8, the 3/11 daily newsletter wasn’t triggered.
I double-checked your email in the subscription settings, and you should be receiving today’s email which will include this post and others.

Well alright sounds like just an issue on my end! 😂 Apologies for sounding a false alarm. I guess I had just gotten to a point where I thought you put out a new post every day except sunday’s 😁.

This looks to be the same as the Ox version P224301.

Hmm on closer inspection maybe not.

I wonder why the multiple locking position design isn’t used in pocket knives. Especially with a button lock, it seems like it wouldn’t hinder your ability to open and close it easily.
It would be handy to be able to open some knives past the “straight” position to gain some knuckle clearance for use on cutting board, or lock it at a more acute angle for cutting through other materials.

It is fairly common for folding pruning saws to have this feature these days, but now that you mention it I don’t think I’ve ever seen it on a pocketknife. I’ve looked at a lot of 19th century knife catalogs from the famous makers in Sheffield and seen all sorts of specialized designs for various purposes, most of which are long forgotten today, and many different kinds of locking mechanisms specifically, but I can’t recall seeing a single one with the ability to lock in multiple positions like this.
For whatever reason the more common solution was to have multiple different blade shapes, so you might have a spear point, sheepsfoot, wharncliffe, and a hawksbill blade all in the same knife.

I like any utility knife that has 3 locking angles and on board blade storage. I dislike small black tools since if you drop them in tall grass or under something or between something in the dark good luck finding it. Spray paint can fix that.
