The knipex tweezers are showing as NWS tweezers, assuming that’s a typo?

I imagine they’d be useful for holding cylindrical objects inline with the tweezers, maybe inserting small roll pins?

TWO Skeletools for $65 is crazy – I best go check if we have them in Canadian Costcos too. That’s my favorite pliers-based multitool.

I think it’s likely a Skeletool multi-tool plus something (knife?), which is still a good deal considering the $75 stocker price on the Skeletool these days.

My Costco membership lapsed. This could be a sign it’s time to renew.

Ah! That’s still a good deal anyway. The retail price in Canada for a Skeletool is about $100-125 and the KBX knife about $55. Even after the currency conversion the price would be an awesome deal if it’s available here.

The article says this “Letterman Skeleton,” which I didn’t read and just web searched it. I was confused.

The deal seems to be for one Skeletool plus the Skeletool KBx pocket knife, not two Skeletools. The knife seems to retail for $40, so this is a good deal if you want both the multitool and the knife.

The knife itself looks okay. It looks very similar to the one built into the Skeletool, and if it operates similarly, it is easy to open and close one-handed. But the blade steel is pretty basic 420HC, usually considered a step below the 440C found in most high quality knives.

Here’s the deal, though the price I’m seeing is $77.

I’d still pick that up if the price is in the same range in Canada. The KBX knife is decent, but I feel it’s overpriced (at least here at ~$55). You could get a Sencut in a much better steel for those prices, and that’s just below where Civivi & Kizer start being options.

Maybe Leatherman is hoping for a comparison between the KBX and Buck’s 110 or 112 in 420HC? I assume the Leatherman is also MiUSA? I would pick a Buck over the KBX, but I could see that being a point of reference.

Koko, as I communicated to Stuart originally. The one in the Costco store was $64.99 and black, and with a second item in the clamshell packaging. Probably the knife others are citing here. I also looked on line and saw the same $77 just multitool with a silver finish. There appeared to be maybe twenty of the $64.99 packages on the shelf. But that was last week. Isn’t something that would go in my cart, even in typical Costco frenzy. But I know a lot of readers like this brand.

They talk about them all briefly in this press release – https://dewalt.mediaroom.com/2023-10-18-DEWALT-R-Unveils-the-Latest-in-Its-Battery-Powered-Outdoor-Lineup,-Including-the-Ascent-TM-Series-Full-Ecosystem,-at-Equip-Expo-2023

But they don’t go into specs/models/prices or anything like that for some reason. I’ve got some of it written down, let me know if there is something specific you want to know.

Also new is the DeWalt Compact Press Tool (out in a few weeks) that is a bit less than Milwaulkee model.

        https://www.dewalt.com/product/dce210d2/20v-max-compact-press-tool-kit?tid=

However, for $2000, you still need CTS jaws that aren’t available unless you get the $2400 kit. I do alot of plumbing repairs but not enough to move from torch to crimp. But ProPress is impressive when you have a leak and can crimp a fitting on with water running.

They also eliminate the need for “hot work permits” in industry. We rent the tool from our plumbing supplier for $50/day, which is very reasonable considering the $4k Canadian dollar price of the Milwaukee set with jaws.

They’re amazing, although I have a friend who thinks we’re creating a problem for down the road if/when the seals in the crimps fail..

You can remove the o-ring and the fitting still seals. The fitting being compressed onto the pipe actually forms a water-tight seal. The o-ring helps account for misalignment but isn’t necessary to prevent leaks.

Cheer up – the Milwaukee 2922-22 Kit sells for $3829.99 US at HD – that translates to $5317.50 CAD

            Oct 31, 2023

Didn’t know the seal could be removed. Interesting. So if I understand correctly, the seal can be removed if the joint is lined up perfectly square, but if the fitting has some tension (which is more often in reality than some may admit), the seal soaks up the play?

Do you have any direct experience with this? It would be interesting to do some testing of this to see where the actual failure point (angle, tension) is, although that will probably vary also.

And thanks Fred. It’s been a bit since I checked the price evidently..

My business is high purity water which is not compatible with copper, so we use this at the rare time we have to install a PRV or boost pump or something on the feedwater line.

            We’ll continue to happily rent!!

Wow, I got excited when I saw a dual battery powered pressure washer. Sadly, it’s only 1600 PSI. I bought the suitcase looking plug in electric one even thought it is only 2100 PSI, but I’m not gonna go less powerful again. During Covid I bought a plug in green works or something like that one that was around 2700 PSI. It was good, but just way too big. I like that the Dewalt suitcase one is so portable. I also have the really weak not a pressure washer one too and that one is battery powered. It’s good for really remote applications where you have a bucket you can pull water from.

I like the FlexVolt 14” chainsaw. I wonder if it would also have the serious oil leak problem that the 12” one has. It great to finally see Dewalt expanding the FlexVolt line after so many years.

Lyle, they also have a plug in 3000PSI pressure washer coming, I still haven’t seen images to know if it is an upgraded suitcase style or the more traditional electric style. I’m hoping it is that suitcase style, because I do like that form factor. In addition to that there is a 1000PSI 60v power cleaner, a more powerful version of the existing 550PSI 20v model.

All chainsaws leak oil, but for whatever reason electric/cordless saws from all brands seem to do it more. Something with the way their pumps work I guess. It’s a minor nuisance that is fairly easy to avoid, I just empty all my saws after use.

The new Flexvolt power cleaner has my attention. I have borrowed my neighbor’s 20V model and I thought it had a lot of potential but it was just a bit too weak for my purposes. It was so close but it just fell a little short. Something in a similar form factor with nearly twice the power would be fantastic.

Agreed. I’d like to give it a try. I’m also looking forward to the new quiet 60v blower, but mostly those new 60v and 2x20v mowers. Looks like a massive upgrade over their current 2x20v mowers.

            @Big Richard
It seems that Home Depot had a page up for the new 60v power cleaner as it shows up in a google search but the link now results in an error. Part no is DCPW1000, and the page showed a list price of $199 for the bare tool. That’s not a bad premium over the list price for the 20v model.

@MM, HD actually had a bunch of placeholder pages for their new OPE early last month, even before they were announced at Equip Expo. The images weren’t accurate so I guess they pulled the pages to fully update them. With their expected availability not being until spring they may not put them back up until around then.

Here is a HD Canada page, also incorrect image though – https://www.homedepot.ca/product/dewalt-60v-max-flexvolt-1000-psi-power-cleaner/1001824467

That 4-pc Metabo HPT set looks like a great deal. I think they have one of the better compact recip saws since you can also use jigsaw blades in it.

Stuart, have you heard anything about any potential deals from FLEX? About the only thing I’ve seen so far is a couple minor discounts on a handful of products from Lowe’s, and Ohio Power Tool has a deal where if you buy the 6ah Stacked Lithium starter kit you get a free tool from a limited selection.

My email was buzzing this morning with supposed deals.

Crawford Tools (had not heard from them in years) sent me a few emails over the last few days. Their promoting some deals on Felo and Vim:

    https://crawfordtool.com/

Kreg Tool – says that some items are priced at 60% off:

    https://www.kregtool.com/shop/sale/

ToolUp said that they have 100’s of Halloween deals – nothing caught my eye – but they may be worth a comparison shop – and they say coupon code PACKOUTSAVE will get you $90 off on Packout.

TaylorToolworks – is having a sale on CMT router bits and sets. They say “up to 60% off

Infinity Cutting Tools – advertised 15% off select router bits

Travers Tool – says save up to 30% using code TREAT

    ToolsToday – has a tiered savings deal ($10 off 150, $20 off 250 or $40 off $350

I’d never heard of it before. I ordered the Metric version on Amazon.ca to try out.

I was thinking of a specific use case: threadlocked bolts on my dirt bike. It’s not like I can’t clean them now, but this does look easier.

There’s several bolts I lightly threadlock because I can’t have them come loose in a race or a long ride – yet those parts come off semi-regularly. E.g. I’ve lost a skidplate before when the bolts worked their way loose, but it also covers my oil drain.

That’s an interesting product. It certainly would be safer than many other methods of cleaning bolt threads though I’m not sure how effective it would clean compared to a brush that has some power behind it, be that a power tool or simply elbow grease. And man they’re proud of it. It appears to be nothing more than a small free-wheeling wire wheel with a flimsy looking plastic handle and a pair of thin guides with holes in them. I can’t bring myself to pay anywhere close to $20 for that but I might DIY a few made out of nice wood as gifts. That is a tool which is easily made with a cheapo small wire wheel and material offcuts.
