Leatherman has launched its iconic mini multi-tool in 4 new Cerakote colors – Slate, Arctic Blue, Black Cherry, and Navy.
The Leatherman Micra multi-tool is perfectly sized for pocket-carry and EDC.

Although I think pliers are nicer to have than scissors, I like this a lot. I have this on one set of keys and a Gerner Dime on the other- the Leatherman is significantly thinner and lighter and definitely has smoother movements. I’m not a fan of the bottle opener, though.

I think a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife makes a very reasonable competitor for the Micra. Even a cheap classic SD gets you most of the utility – but I acknowledge its scissors are less serious.
I’m not saying anything bad about the Micra though. It has a reasonable build quality and price too. It’s just not what I would pick if I wanted a multi-tool with scissors but didn’t need pliers.
Another good thing about the Micra (and an SAK too) is that it is reasonably innocuous and probably won’t raise any eyebrows in polite company.

I think there are plenty of SAKs that put up a good fight, but if you’re looking for something small and durable on a “keychain,” this or a Dime are tough to beat.
Having internal tools on the Micro keeps the tools free of lint and gunk, but the outside accessible tools on the Dime add a layer of convenience

The scales on SAK are where mine usually fail and why I stopped carrying them on keychains. I know replacement scales can be purchased but the cost/ frequency is too dear imo. Iconic visual but thankfully left off the swisstool line.
I really like leatherman’s cerakote finishes, even the way they wear over time. Curious to try my own at home.

I agree about the pliers, they are nice to have. I have two of these and they are great! $35 is a rip though, just keep an eye out elsewhere. I got mine for $10.

The blade on this has kept its edge way better than anything else I have close in size. I agree about the cost- mine actually came bundled with a Wingman almost a decade ago. I don’t see them dropping the price to what it used to be, though.

$35 is good, when compared to what Amazon is asking for them. From $50, to $62. I don’t know why, they used to cost the same as on the Leatherman website.

From what I have seen, you can only buy the Micra from Leatherman directly now.
I assume that rising costs made it unprofitable to sell via retailers for $35, and that selling it directly at this price was the only way to avoid a price increase. I have been unable to get an official answer from Leatherman about why they Micra is not sold via any online dealers I could find anymore.

there was at one time a red, white and blue version. i gave one to my wife but it was stolen in a car break-in. they are rather rare and have some collector value.

I have the three versions of this tool, the pliers, wirestrippers, and the scissors. They are excellent and the mini size makes carrying them almost unnoticeable in your pocket.

I love the size of these, but pliers are infinitely more useful than scissors, so I’ve never understood the appeal of these over the Squirt PS4, of which I have several. What’s worse is now the availability of the Squirt PS4 spotty at best and getting worse (discontinued maybe?), but they’re making the Micra in all of these new colors? It’s just a head scratcher to me.

Like many of the Leatherman tools, jack of all trades, master of none.
In a pinch, can be helpful, but often finicky or tough to use on the intended job. I have the Wingman. It is nice and well made, but for myself personally, I do not find it convenient enough to carry it with me on a daily basis.
About 10-15 years ago, at work I won a Victorinox Champion XAVT or XXL, I don’t remember the exact model, but it was big. Its biggest claim to fame is as a conversation piece.
It now sits in my bugout bag. My Leatherman will probably end up in a smaller getaway bag I am putting together.
I always carry a folding knife and smaller flashlight. I am used to having them, so I use them often, even daily. But this type of multi tools are a bit too big for EDC, at least for me.
If I do make a smaller EDC bag, then something like my Leatherman will definitely be in there…but not as EDC for my pocket.

I stand corrected, I did not realize how small it was till i saw one in person. This small fits on my key chain nicely. Not a ton of functionality, but the scissors alone make it good for me. As time goes on, I will make more use of a couple of other tools.
I liked the size so much, I also got a Gerber Dime. I have not used either one enough to say that one is better than the other, but like both so far.
I have my keys on a small to medium sized carabiner, and I put a small flashlight. the Micra & Dime on another small carabiner. When I go out, I grab only the key or I grab both, depending on whatever my head says.
They hang on a belt loop or usually left and right front pocket. This way I can avoid 1 overloaded keychain. Not for everyone but works for me.

BTW, I have in the past tried my Wingman in its’ sheath, on my belt, but it bothers me. I see some people that have 2 or more things hanging from their belt…great, but I can’t get used to it.
So the Micra and Dime, are great for me.

A Black Cherry Micra with a Black Cherry Cap-O-Matic, or Bullet space pen, sounds like a great EDC combo.

I prefer the plain stainless steel micra, because it doesn’t show scratches when put on keychain.
I hope they’re still being made to the same spec as before – I’ve had one on my keychain for around a decade, and it still looks and works like nearly new.
People are discussing SAKs as an alternative, but I’ve never gotten that kind of durability out of one.

For years, I considered this tool to be a pocket staple. I definitely lost them more often than I wore them out. The 20 dollar, or so, cost at the time, made them a cheap but effective and useful item. I realize that we live in a different day and time, but I still can’t justify the current price. I also don’t feel that the quality control is up to the years when these were much cheaper. Others may feel justified in shelling out the 35 bucks. Not me.
The other thing is that there is only one color in my opinion, silver. The others might look good if your intention is to keep it in a box and pull in out solely for the purpose of “show and tell.” If you intend to stick it in your pocket and use it however, the colors WILL scratch off. Any coin, keys, or other similarly textured object in your pocket will scratch the colors to pieces. I would personally only purchase the standard silver.

I carry one of these on my work van keys. Really handy and useful. Not a heavy duty tool by any means, but convenient. Can’t believe the price is $35 now. I think I paid less than $20 for mine.
