Leatherman Skeletool Holiday Display at Home Depot Oct 2015

The last time I was at the local Home Depot, I found the above-pictured display of Leatherman Skeletool multi-tools, on sale for $30.

If you don’t know what’s so special about these multi-tools, take a look at my Leatherman Skeletool review and Leatherman Skeletool CX review. Both models are fantastic, and differ only slightly. The Skeletool has a plain stainless steel finish, the CX has a DLC coating, different blade style, and slightly more premium blade alloy.

Price Check: Skeletool via Amazon, via Home Depot, Skeletool CX via Amazon

Leatherman Skeletool Pliers Open

Here’s the complication… this looks like a holiday display, which means two things:

  1. The deal is only available in stores (for now??)
  2. Some stores won’t have the displays on the sales floor yet, and if they do, you’ll have to find it

Update: You can now buy the Skeletool online for $29.88 and free shipping. No legwork required!

Buy Now(via Home Depot)

The lowest price I’ve ever seen on a Leatherman Skeletool was around $34 or $35 on Amazon. I watch the price like a hawk, and online price trackers confirm that it has NEVER been as low as $30.

My first Skeletool cost $55, and it’s currently $45 everywhere, so $30 is a heck of a good deal. It’s such a good deal that I might try to stop by my local Home Depot later today or tomorrow to pick up one or two more.

If Home Depot is selling these for $30, I’d say there’s a good chance that Amazon might try to match them. Or maybe Amazon arranged for a similar deal that will be a Black Friday Lightning Deal or similar.

The low price is surprising to me. In the past, Leatherman and Home Depot worked out promos on Wingman and Sidekick tools. This year, due to rising costs, Leatherman had to bump up the pricing of those tools but came out with the Rev, a slightly lower priced multi-tool that takes their place at the entry-level.

Reviews: Leatherman Sidekick, Sidekick vs. Wingman

I had thought that the Rev would be this year’s Home Depot bulk “special buy,” and it still might be, but I never would have predicted that Home Depot would order Skeletool multi-tools by the quarter pallet.

This is the SKU: 1001-480-750. I don’t know what you could do with this, but maybe your local Home Depot can use this to find out if they have these out on display yet.

Right now the online listing is for online ordering only, with home delivery or ship-to-store the only options, not to mention the tool’s full price there. I initially typed that last part out as fool price, which might have been appropriate had I not been one to order one of these at even higher pricing. $45 is a good price, $35 is an excellent price, $30 is a why haven’t you bought one yet?! price.

I don’t ordinarily like to share deals that require so much legwork, but this one seems to be worth the exception.

Update: As mentioned above, the deal is now available online with free shipping.

I will need to check this out. I have a couple of used skeletools I bought, but I have wanted a newer one….

Many Lowe’s stores had a small display of Leatherman Rev at $19 earlier this year. Most of them sold out in just a few days once the price was distributed around online.

I don’t want a new one, I simply want more of them! I hate having to fetch mine from another room. While I use mine when away from my tools, sometimes a multi-tool is the right size and has the right combination of tools even when I’m right next to my tool box.

Well, this might be what actually gets me to go buy a multi-tool.

Small enough to toss on your keys?

      Definitely not, in my opinion.

You might want to look at the Style CS, which comes with scissors – https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/leatherman-style-cs-mini-skeletool-scissors-keychain-multitool/%3C/a%3E , or a Style PS, which comes with pliers – https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/leatherman-style-ps-tsa-safe-and-travel-friendly-keychain-multi-tool/%3C/a%3E , or a Squirt.

Unfortunately, my Skeletool blade is made of steel that’s hard to sharpen and won’t hold a good edge. Sounds like they fixed that in the newer ones.

Send it to Leatherman with a note, they will replace the blade with a new one for free.

Thanks! I should send it along with the mini Leatherman I have whose scissors never cut right.

The last few years I have bought stuff at Home Depot that were Holiday Specials only to see deep discounts of overstock in January. So this year I’ll wait. Last year or the year before they had a pile of Wingmans and Sidekicks that were even cheaper than the Holiday Display.

The last couple of years, my local Home Depot usually sold out their Leatherman promo display tools early into the shopping season.

One year, the Sidekick that was bundled with the one-piece Croc tool lasted a little longer.

There are three Home Depots within a 15 minute drive from my home. This is a good deal but I’ll take my chances for a better deal.

I’ve picked up Sidekicks and Wingman for the past three years at the after Christmas prices, but this is a great deal compared to the before Christmas deals on those tools. I may pick up one prior to Christmas and take my chances with getting a few more afterward at an even better price.

Very tempting, I’d love to have a stainless steel multi-tool to keep in the fishing gear bag.

I’ve passed on the Skeletool many times since the pliers seem to be a weak point and break pretty easily compared to other models. Yeah there’s the warranty but I don’t want to pay shipping to keep sending something back that keeps breaking. I bought a Wingman at a hefty discount and that seems to be a better EDC tool assortment, even at a slightly heavier weight.

I’ll keep an eye out for post-holiday clearance prices though, missed out on the Sidekick when they had it super cheap.

I have just bought a Victorinox SwissTool. It knocks all Leathermans out of the park on quality. Its an absolute monster of a tool. Very very impressed with it

Has even got a chisel, prybar and a try square function. Leathermans are great, I have a couple but the Victorinox is just in another league. Looks like a work of art too.

Individually made in Switzerland but cheaper than an equivalent Leatherman.

I had a skeletool and just didn’t like the curve of the handle. It was just too uncomfortable.for the price it may be worth it for work since I don’t like to use my charge TI in the dirt and sand, not too mention it would hurt to lose it.

Went to two Home Depots today and they don’t have them at all. One Home Depot already looked like they were ready for black Friday with all the displays they had out. Still not to be found. I’ve got one more close enough to check and them Im gonna pass.

Stopped by Home Depot today. They were just setting up for Christmas and had plenty in stock, though they had just been put out this morning. Bought two, his and hers, as my wife is a tool addict also.

Not stocked at my local Home Depot.

I’m kinda glad though, I was thinking of picking one up when I was there, but when I really think about it, I need another multi-tool like my spoiled dog needs another treat.

Went back to the first Home Depot I checked and now it was in stock. Great price. I’m gonna carry it for a while as by EDC tool and see how I like it compared to others I own. Fits in my skinth better and it’s a little lighter. Thanks for the heads up on this.

Picked up two of these over the past couple of days. Used a Harbor Fright 20% off coupon both times. Brought the price down to $23.90 before CA took it’s bite.

Well, I was thinking about ordering something from Homedepot.com, but it wasn’t enough by itself to qualify for free shipping, so I was debating if to wait the couple weeks before I get to HD, pay shipping fees, or find something to add to my order. Looks like the decision just got easier.

I checked my local HD, and most of the in-store Skeletools were sold out already. The top box was maybe a 1/4 full, the bottom just had 2 at the front for appearance purposes.

These are selling quickly, hopefully they have plenty of stock held back for online orders or this will sell out way before Thanksgiving.
