Dewalt often runs promotional pricing on their 20V Max brushless oscillating multi-tool kits, but today’s deal of the day is a bit different.
A reader wrote in – thank you, Jason! – with a tip that Lowe’s has one of the better Dewalt oscillating tool kits on sale for a fantastic price.
Today only, you can get the Dewalt DCS356D1 multi-tool kit for just $99.

This kit comes with the tool, 2 starter blades, a sanding pad with sandpaper sheets, a depth guide, 2Ah battery, charger, and tool bag.
The description also lists a universal adapter, which can be used for ring-style blades that won’t fit the split-ring tool-free blade change mechanism.
The DCS356 is Dewalt’s XR series premium oscillating tool, featuring a brushless motor, variable speed switch, and 3 speed range settings.
Typically, Dewalt’s basic kits are on sale for this price – their Atomic single speed range tool with the same battery, or the same XR tool with fewer accessories and a lower capacity battery.
Compared to Dewalt’s typical $99 promo kits, this kit – on sale for $99 today only – gives you more accessories, pairs the XR tool with the 2Ah battery (rather than 1.3Ah or 1.5Ah), and from the product images it also gives you the depth control guide which can be pricey and difficult to source separately.

Dewalt also has a very similar kit with the same model number. This other kit has a different tool bag and comes with a hard accessory case and one additional blade.
This version of the Dewalt DCS356D1 kit was on sale at Amazon for $129 on Prime day and then again just after Cyber Monday. At this time, Amazon has that kit for $149, and Acme Tools $139.
Lowe’s deal is almost identical, but as mentioned it lacks the accessory case and 1 blade. That seems like a fair tradeoff for substantial savings.
Shown here is the Dewalt DCS356C1 kit, which is what you typically get for $99.
And this is the Dewalt Atomic series DCS354D1 kit, which also typically has a $99 promo price.
In context, Lowe’s deal is a fantastic value.
As we’re in between holiday seasons right now, with the winter holiday pricing in the rearview and Father’s day sales ahead of us, Lowe’s deal isn’t just a very good deal, it looks to be the only Dewalt oscillating multi-tool deal right now.

They also have the DCB208-2C charger kit for $149. That’s a good deal, for the batteries alone it would be less than $10/Ah, but here you also get a premium 6A charger.

That’s a great deal on one of my favorite tools, hands down. I’ve used my 356 a LOT and it never misses a beat. Weird angles, mud, sprinkler water, it’s a little workhorse. Anyone on the fence, just buy it. To me it stands out for the 3-speed switch and the blade release.

Yeah, I love these. I have the older model without the 3-speed option. DCS355 I think? I love it. It’s tough, powerful, ergonomics are nice, and most importantly a very good quick-release mechanism. There other other OMTs out there with less vibration but I’d still much rather have the Dewalt for its blade release. The sanding attachment and the roller guide are both useful and work great.
And here you get the tool, good accessories, battery and charger for $100? That should be a no-brainer.

There is a 3speed option? So mine is the older one. Yeah, Squeeze and change blade.
Prices of blades though..need to come down. Atleast the Dewalt ones. I got some of the cheapo ones on Amazon … 50 for the price of one Dewalt. Work fine.

The Dewalt blades are pretty good performing but they’re expensive and rarely on sale.
For some jobs the cheapos are fine. For better blades I like Milwaukee a lot. They are good blades too, and more importantly they are very often on sale at Home Depot.

Love this tool and the accessories in this kit are awesome. Tempted to buy another.
If I had one nit pick it is that I wish the battery was inline with the tool or at an angle.
That said, I have rarely ever had an issue with it.

If someone can sell me on this aside from the three speed on my go get it. I have the skil 12 volt tool and love it. It’s small, six-speed, the Halo light is great and I beat the hell out of it. My big tools are all Rigid but I’m done with them for a few reasons, mainly because everything they make I need I already have or I don’t trust, also there tool deals suck. Been looking at DeWalt and HPT mainly for nail guns but I can’t decide.

It’s not really a direct competitor to the DeWalt, but that’s a good price if you already in the Skil 12v family.

Even within the 3 speeds, it has a variable speed trigger, so you have more than 3 speeds like you might on a triggerless OMT.

Generally, the biggest differences between 12V-class and 18V-class OMTs are the power and runtime. Have you been disappointed in your Skil? If not, assess your use over the next few months and wait for the next deal.

@ColeTrain I have a lot of tools from Dewalt and HPT. I have found really good deals on HPT tools – about one good deal per year, with this year being the cordless 1/2″ router with battery starter kit for $154 after tax. Other great deals have been a cordless brad nailer with battery for $99, as well as my cordless recip saw and circular saw. Adding tools slowly as they come on sale has been a great way for me to get into the HPT system.

For only $100 more you can get it with an additional second battery, the more compact 2A charger, a random orbital sander, an entry level brushless drill, and an entry level brushless impact driver. You do lose the accessory kit though.

If you don’t need/want the drill and driver, you could probably sell both for around $75, netting you the OMT, ROS, charger, and a pair of 2Ah batteries for $125.

Big R, that is an interesting set. I got the ROS for about $80 at HD last November, and the main OMT kit Stuart built this article around for a slightly better price than today’s the year before. Otherwise, I would have taken this Lowe’s deal. Probably would have given the drill and impact to Habitat for Humanity.
