Lowe’s launched a new camo finish option for their Kobalt mini tool box.
The mini tool box was a huge hit last year during the holiday season, with the pink and white boxes being in especially high demand for lifestyle applications.
Lowe’s recently launched a new bottom box in blue, black, white, and pink, matching the most commonly available Kobalt mini tool chests. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there’s a camo-finish bottom box, at least not yet.

As far as I can see, this is just a reskin of the Kobalt mini tool chest, with nothing changed outside of aesthetics. It’s hard to tell, as Lowe’s only provided a single product image with few details.
The tool box is small, measuring just under 6″ deep and tall and under 11″ wide. It’s a good fit for desktop or workbench use, sizes for smaller tools, accessories, or lifestyle products.

I expected other retailers to copy Kobalt’s idea and launch mini tool boxes of their own, but I haven’t seen any from Husky at Home Depot, or one of Harbor Freight’s brands yet. Maybe there’s still time for that.
Kobalt’s mini tool box was a Black Friday doorbuster deal last year, but there’s no indication the same will be true for this model this year.

At this time, it’s only available online, with free in-store pickup or free shipping with $45+ eligible orders.
A camo-finish version seems like a good idea and might appeal to shoppers who passed on last year’s colors.

Lowe’s changed the image on their website, from woodlands camo to a RealTree-like forest camo pattern.

menards copied it. only in black, but on sale for $8, it’s cheap enough to get a can of any color spray paint along with it.

i picked up two last night, and compared them to the kobalt version i got last week. they’re functionally identical. the kobalt has a full 180 degree hinged top, where the performax has a 95 degree hinge that stops open. good/bad for different uses. but the drawers, and overall dimensions are identical.

I bought one of these without even being sure what I’d use it for because it was so cheap on sale I figured “why not?”
It wound up being the perfect size for my multitool collection.

The Menards one is so cheap I almost bought more even though I have the Lowe’s.
Anyone nearby should grab one; at $8 you really can’t go wrong 😑

I bought some Kobalt versions for gifts last Spring. Different colors for different folks.
So far only women have seemed to like them.
I think they’re too clumsy/primitive since they have no actual drawer bearings.
Oh well. Another Lowe’s near miss for me at least.

It is more expensive at $35, but has a latching lid with a carrying handle, and both drawers are 2 1/8” deep.

I saw that recently, but availability was slim. Their 18″ tool boxes are good – I snagged a couple from Woot at a steep discount a long time ago and have been saving them for my kids.

Update from someone who purchased this. It is not an army green camo. It is a hunting camo pattern. They’ve updated the listing now. I just wish they did it before I bought it as now I have to go through the return hassle.

Just bought two of the black ones. I am using them to store odds and ends at the desk and in the shop. At this price, they are really great for organizing a desk. They also make a “bottom” box for these that have neoprene for the top box. You can buy the set for $44+ online at Lowe’s.

I haven’t seen any camo bottom boxes yet. You can buy a top and bottom in the other colors separately.
