Makita’s 12V trim saw is a very small cordless circular saw that works with 3-3/8″ blades. It’s the same size as the Bosch 12V circular saw that hasn’t been announced in the USA yet, and is designed for light duty and trim applications.

Pretty soon, Makita is coming out with a new glass and tile cutting saw (CC01W), which looks to be nearly identical to their 12V trim saw. It features a 1400 RPM motor, similar 3-3/8″ blade size (15mm arbor hole), and maximum cutting depth of 1″ at 90° (5/8″ at 45°).

The tile and glass cutter has a nickel-plated tilting base that can beven from 0 to 45°, and there’s a large attached water supply tank for proper blade cooling, lubrication, and chip removal during wet cutting applications
Makita doesn’t provide specifics about the blade, but it’s suitable for glass and tile cutting applications and is presumably diamond-coated.
Price: $199-205 for the 1-battery kit
It’s unclear as to whether the 12V tile and glass cutter will be available as an add-on tool. Right now, there are only details about the 1-battery kit.

First Thoughts
Makita took their 4-1/2 year old saw 12V trim saw, gave it a new nickel-plated base, a diamond-coated blade, a water reservoir, and BAM it’s a glass and tile cutter.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed that Makita’s first 12V release in more than a year isn’t a game-changing brushless drill or driver. Many of their 12V tools have grown long in the tooth and are uninspiring compared to recent offerings by Milwaukee, Bosch, Ridgid, and even Dewalt.
The attached water reservoir looks like a nice feature – hopefully it’s removable – and something that perhaps RotoZip should consider adding to their Zip Saw, which comes with a diamond blade that can only be used for dry cutting tasks.

It would be nice if some of the manufacturers offered a similar water reservoir/dispenser for drills. It would come in handy when drilling ceramic tile, porcelain, granite, etc…

They do check out the( Hydro- Handle )on Amazon. Can use any cordless drill to drill though tile.

Both of these saws have been on the market here in Australia for over 12 months.
The saw sells for $89 and the diamond cutter sells for $149, so when they are available to you guys prices will most likely be @ $69 and $99 respectively.

While I own many of the Makita 18v tools, I find myself unimpressed, in general, with the 12v line. One of the factors is actually that they are white in color. I have a couple of their white tools and find that they are difficult, if not almost impossible to keep clean. Another factor is that there is nothing in the 12v lineup that I need that has not already been covered in the 18v line, for the most part. I suppose that if I were working with tile or glass every day that this particular item might have some interest for me, but I think that a Fein cordless multi-tool would be of more use for small issues and an actual full size wet saw would handle most of the major ones.

I have the drill/ driver and impact driver but as this line seems to be almost abandoned by Makita I have just bought a Bosch 10.8 v drill as its better, got more battery options and come in a Sortimo box to go with the L boxx rack. There are other tools I’m going to get in time.
