When scouting out Father’s Day tool deals, I found that Makita’s 18V 2-battery and charger starter kit is on clearance at Home Depot stores.
The starter kit comes with 2x 5Ah batteries, a charger, and tool bag.
These kits were part of a Black Friday and Holiday promotion, where you bought the starter kit for $199 and got a free tool with it.

According to the in-store clearance price pop-over, these Makita battery and charger starter kits are just $100 in store.
$100 is a good price for the batteries, and the included charger is their “rapid” charger, not the slower “standard” one.
In another part of the product page, it says:
This item isn’t eligible for online order Pickup, but it is on Clearance at [select local stores]. While supplies last.
The deal is only available in-store. And, your store might not have it – the online inventory checker is giving mixed signals.
If you’re a Makita 18V tool user that needs batteries, and you find yourself at Home Depot, you might want to take a minute and look for it.

Home Depot has added “see in-store clearance price” for a bunch of other cordless power tool products, mostly prior season promotions.
It’s a great idea, but there’s no indication if or where it might be available, which is why I don’t think it’s wise to make special trips just for that purpose.
I recently went looking for a Dewalt Atomic bundle that Home Depot advertised as being clearance-priced at my local store, and couldn’t find it. I asked a Home Depot worker and was told to “check the website.”

Digging around Home Depot’s site, it seems there’s a secret Father’s Day deal that isn’t available in stores.
Buy a starter kit with 2x 4Ah batteries, a charger, and a tool bag for $259, get a free tool.
This isn’t as good as the holiday season deal, as you get lower capacity batteries, and the price is higher. But, that’s the deal right now.
Home Depot’s website reports that they have 213 units available for delivery or ship-to-store.

Yea, we had that Makita kit in store at that clearance sale price a couple of months ago. I quickly sold them all. The hypoid saws were selling quickly, too at $249 (with 2x5ah batteries being cheaper than just the 2 batteries at $279), but about 2 weeks ago they put the price back up to $399. About a week later, the pallet of them went back in the overhead, as they quit selling.

My HD app shows buy the starter kit for $179 and get a free tool. I haven’t these kinda deals from Makita in AGES
Stuart
I see a “special buy” of $259.
There are also other pre-selected bundled, and they’re all $259 too.

I double checked mine cuz I thought it was a fluke but it’s definitely $179 + free tool. And there are some decent options too beyond the usual “generics” like a drill or circ saw
Stuart
It definitely looks to be a fluke. Maybe your local/regional HDs lowered the price?
Following the link Adam provided, this is from Makita USA’s official promo flyer:
“Was $299, Now $259”
Valid from May 1st thru July 31st.

The free tool deal is right on Makita’s promo page, near the bottom. The free tools are actually some of Makita’s pricier bare tools. Would be interesting to see if you could combine this deal with the above clearance price, making it an unbelievable steal.

It took some digging, here’s the sales flyer.
You can’t combine them. The 5Ah starter kit is on clearance. The new promo is for the 4Ah starter kit.
I don’t find the free bare tool selection very appealing, but think the grease gun and right angle drills might sell well. Other brands don’t usually have those kinds of tools in similar offers.
