Makita has come out with a new cordless vacuum in their 18V X2 lineup, model XCV05Z. It’s a backpack vac, and as per the X2, it works off of (2) 18V Li-ion battery packs.
While not quite as surprising as their robotic vacuum, or as versatile as their AC/cordless X2 vac, or as compact as their ball vac, the new backpack vac gives you greater mobility, free from having to drag a vac around the floor.

First Thoughts
While it seems to me that 1/2 gallon might not be a lot of dust and debris-holding capacity, I think Makita engineers made the right call, keeping the weight under 10 lbs.
I’m not quite sure what to think of the design, not having really looked at any backpack vacs or blowers before. The hose comes out of the top, and controls are at the side.

interesting concept. Not sure I would buy something like that.

This is defiantly a tool for an industrial customer. Most consumers and contractors won’t find a big use for it.

Hey just wanted to let you know on description on what you need to use the tool you have 2 vac’s instead of batteries.

Thanks, fixed!

If I was cleaning airplanes, I’d whine until I got one of these things. But then I’d be whining because I was cleaning airplanes, so, y’know.
I’ve seen those cleaners using the Dewalt cordless vacs – having it on your back (and close fitting) would be a killer improvement.

Makita sure is king of the cordless vacuums. They have a whole lineup!

28.5″ of water lift .. the inlet is on the top of the backpack, it’s way more that 28.5 hign when it’s on your back lol. But it a nice vac another one from makita 😉

FYI “water lift” is a measure of suction power, like CFM is a measure of air flow. I do not believe this is a wet and dry vac anyway.

I’ve been looking for a back back vac. for about 2 years. I have started doing a lot of vacuuming around the house the conventional vacuums suck (pardon the pun). Seriously – as you go back you have to shove the unit backwards.
Vacuum cleaner designers are obviously not users if they were they would design something like this. All you need to add is a power head for carpets and your good to do. I will probably buy this.
