Makita issued a teaser that highlighted some of their upcoming Li-ion cordless power tools and products, including a higher capacity 18V LXT 4.0Ah battery pack that we discussed earlier.
18V LXT
Brushless 1/2″ Hammer Drill Driver XPH07
Makita says that this new model will break new ground in the 1/2″ hammer driver-drill category and that it will lead the industry in torque, speed, runtime, and have the fastest battery charge time.
ETA: Summer 2014

Brushless 1/2″ Drill Driver XFD07
This drill will be similar to the XPH07, but without a hammer mode.
Compact Portable Band Saw XBP01
Makita says that the new band saw weighs 25% less than competing models. It will have a 2-1/2″ cutting capacity.
ETA: Spring 2014
Compact Reciprocating Saw Kit XRJ01
The new saw will feature a variable speed trigger, 1/2″ stroke length, tool-free blade holder, and dual-position on/off switch that allows for paddle or trigger switch operation.

ETA: Spring 2014
Brushless 1/2″ Hammer Drill Driver XPH06
This hammer drill was designed around the knowledge that most hammer drills are used to drill 1/8″ to 1/4″ holes, which Makita says gives it unmatched power-to-weight ratio and longer runtime compared to competing models.
ETA: Winter 2014 for the kit and bare tool (XPH06Z)
Available now: XT248 kit, which includes XPH06Z hammer drill and XDT08Z impact driver.
18V X2 LXT
7-1/4″ Circular Saw XSH01Z
(2) 18V LXT batteries give the new 36V-equivalent saw greater power and runtime compared to common 18V models.
ETA: Winter 2014
12V Max
Makita says that more tools are on the way, and provided details for one of them.
3/8″ Right Angle Drill Kit AD02W
A compact solution for drilling and driving in tight spaces. Only 3-1/2″ head length, keyless chuck, paddle switch, LED lights, light weight. Makita says this is the most compact [right angle drill] in the category.
ETA: December 2013

That’s awesome, I was just about to reinvest in some of the new Milwaukee stuff but I’m glad makita is showing their lxt stuff some loving. That circular saw is definately gonna find a new home soon.
Jim
The Makita LXT updates are welcomed but alittle disappointing, all improvements of current offerings. I was hoping they would release some new cabilities, like the vac/dust collector, one of the die grinders, the grease gun attachment for the impact, the headlamp or the biscuit joiner. Novel, but not as enticing, the helmet fan, caulk gun and the 18V LXT folding bicycle.
Javier
Makita made brushless tech mainstream in cordless tools, I wonder why they didn’t expand on that concept beyond drills and impacts

Glad to see the X2 in the circular saw: my Bosch 36V circ saw (powered with two 18V Makita’s via a rigged adapter) ROCKS. Way, way, WAY better than an 18V circ saw. Not as good as a corded model, but… close enough for most work.
There are certain tools you want in 36V, but not all of them. Thus, the X2 approach is great, since you can get the 36V performance and still have the 18V lineup. Of course, Makita still needs to add to their list:
X2 (36V) tools that do/should exist for Makita:
Rotary Hammer (exists)
Circ Saw (now exists….finally!)
Compound Miter Saw (does not exist)
Die Grinder (does not exist; Makita’s 18V die grinder is, um, lacking)
Yard Tool Variations:
Blower (does not exist)
Chain Saw (does not exist)
Hedge Trimmer (does not exist)
Stuart
As Chad said, they do make a chain saw and blower.

Chain Saw…EXISTS! X2
Blower…EXISTS! X2
Hedge Trimmer…EXISTS! (one battery w/22″ bar & 75 min. run time).

Makita does have the X2 yard blower and the X2 chainsaw.
If you haven’t used the die grinder with one battery it seems to last half a day on one charge. Seems like plenty.
KenZ
Sweet! Thanks all for the links and comments. Love it. I will say that they’re all a bit PRICEY (reference, say, Ryobi 40V chainsaw at <1/3 the price…) but it's nice to see they're doing this with the tools that count!

Stuart, Does Makita have any 12V brushless drills? If not, have you heard when they might make some.
Jim
Makita makes a brushless drill, it is just a matter of when it is released here. It can be shipped or brought back. Some of the non-USA items are on eBay.

That’s a beast of a circ saw!

To bad the blade on the circularsaw is on the wrong side.
Jim
If you are using a track type guide, with the saw base riding on top of the guide, I would prefer the blade on the right side. I wonder if the base has a machined slot for riding on a track, does not look like it from the picture, but it may.
Tommy
Yes, that migth be true. I have a ts55 so didn’t consider that. I have the 18v witch is to week. So I bougth the bocsh 36v that is much more powerfull, still wouldn’t do as a track saw. It lacks stamina.
Robb
Any idea if the new circular saw is going to be brushless?
Stuart
A brushless motor in the 18V X2 saw is very highly improbable.
Robb
Looks like you are correct, Stuart. I took a look at Makita’s Japanese site (which had a bit more information about the circular saw) and it wasn’t brushless.
On a different note, thanks for all the hard work you put into this site. This is one of the very few daily “go to” websites for me.
Todd Noice
If I’m going to pay a premium to lug two batteries around to run a circular saw I want it to be a festool wanna be plunge saw. I’m trying to convert a straight shear into a fiber cement board cutter.
Carl
4.0 AH batteries but still no fuel gauge? WTF makita? It can’t be that hard/cost that much more to include a feature that every one of their competitors has been able to implement. I was really looking forward to picking up a 6 pc combo kit but since they still seem to think a fuel gauge isn’t a necessary fixture I’m probably going to be going with Milwaukee instead.

My big question is how much chuck run out I should expect on the XPH06? Reading reviews of some of the other Makita 1/2″ hammer drills (on Amazon) wobbly chucks seems to be the big displeasure. Any ideas how the XPH06 would compare to the LXPH05? I stopped by Home Depot and tried to rock some of the chucks side-to-side and noticed some do have noticeably more play.
Jacob
Have you gotten your hands on the XPH06 yet? It appears to be on Amazon right now, sold by “David’s Tools”. Amazon has it listed, but it is out of stock.
Curious to get some reviews on it as I’m just getting into Makita now and need a drill for light duty “around the house” duty.
Stuart
To be honest, I don’t plan on testing the XPH06 at all.
If you’re looking for a light duty drill, the XPH06 might not be the best choice. As it’s an 18V LXT drill/driver, you can only use it with Makita’s high capacity battery packs. For light to medium-duty tasks, a compact drill/driver with 2.0Ah Li-ion battery pack will be lighter and more economical.
Jacob
I have the very nice LXDT06 impact and the kit I bought came with 2 of the 18v 3.0aH batteries so that is what I’m working with.
I need a decent amount of torque and trigger control as I use the drill mostly to drill holes in the head of grade 8 bolts to safety wire them.
I’d like to stick with brushless as I have been astounded by the battery life I have been getting with my impact.
Allen
I love the 18v Makita line of tools and have an extensive set at present. The next one I really need is a router. Other manufacturers have battery operated routers and have had them for several years. Why can’t we get one from Makita? PS Kudos on coming up with the 2x line of tools.
Steve shearwood
Hi there , will makita be doing an 18 v router similar to the one ryobi have ?
Stuart
I hope so!
