Makita 18V 8pc Cordless Power Tool Combo Kit XT801X1

Over at pretty much every Makita retailer right now, they look to have a Father’s Day 2021 deal combo – this 18V 8-tool cordless power tool combo kit for $399, model XT801X1.

We’ve seen this particular combo kit “special buy” before – it appeared for the 2019 winter holiday shopping season and again around Black Friday 2020.

Here’s what this Makita “special buy” combo comes with:

  • Drill/driver (XFD10Z)
  • Impact driver (XDT11Z)
  • 6-1/2″ circular saw (XSS02Z)
  • Compact reciprocating saw (XRJ01Z)
  • 5″ random orbit sander (XOB01Z)
  • 3/8″ sub-compact impact wrench (XWT12ZB)
  • Blower (DUB182Z)
  • LED flashlight (DML815)
  • Rapid charger
  • 2x 3.0Ah batteries
  • Tool bag

While not any of their “latest and greatest” tools, and the batteries are Makita’s lowest capacity 10-cell battery packs, I’d say this is a very good value.

The brushless subcompact impact wrench is a nice addition, and the cordless sander and blower also look to be worthwhile additions.

If you consider that $299 is the typical price point for 4- or 5-tool cordless power tool combo kits, at least promo-priced configurations, you get quite a bit here for just $100 more.

I think that this is going to be one of the better value DIYer starter tool kits, apprentice starter kits, or value-minded Pro combo kits of the Father’s Day 2021 deals season.

Price: $399

Makita XT614SX1 18V Cordless Power Tool Combo Kit

Right now, Acme Tools also has a 6pc Makita 18V cordless combo kit, XT614SX1, for $299.

It’s similar to the 8pc combo, but with a cordless vac instead of a blower, and without the sander or impact wrench, and you also get a slower charger. But, you save $100 if you don’t need the extras of the 8-tool combo kit. There might be other subtle differences, but I think these are it.

Looks like a good deal for the jumbo kit, but with only two batteries it does limit users to two.

Not the latest-and-greatest tools, nor even “full size” tools for that matter, and only 2 3ah batteries seems pretty limited for all those tools but it’s hard to argue with the price. Those look like great setups for a beginner, new homeowner getting into DIY, etc, especially if one can find a complementary Makita deal that has a couple of larger batteries.

That’s the same deal. I took the link out because it’s only available in-stores or for special paid store delivery. I’m watching the page in case it starts shipping.

If I was an average homeowner looking to get started, the Makita deal would be good, but I’d be *much* happier if they left out the impact wrench and substituted more & better batteries.

$299 is as low as their deals go, at least the combos I’d recommend.

Generally with any brand I’d rather accept lower capacity batteries than lower grade tools.

There are and will likely be more cordless deals.

If not, then November is sure to be a big month. Some brands have slim Father’s Day promos presumably because they’re stockpiling for the upcoming Black Friday/winter holiday season.

The price is great. I just don’t think the average Joe/Jane would get much use from an impact wrench, and an extra battery would be much more useful.

Not a terrible offering, but mid to low range on most of the tools. The 2×3.0Ah is pretty sad, too, although getting more Makita batteries is not hard with all the deals they have going one for the 2x LXT tools.

As far as selection goes, the blower and vacuum have been some of my most used tools. I keep the vacuum in the house and the blower next to the door for the porch and deck.

I’m glad I went with higher tier tools but with fewer in the package, but I’d imagine this would be fine for a home owner.
