Here are a couple of decent tool deals that were submitted by readers. Do you know of any other great deals to share about? Please let us know! I will be updating the post as needed, but also look to the comments for more time-sensitive deal info.
Bosch 12V L-Boxx Combos
Jon wrote in about a great Bosch deal at Menards:

Here’s a pretty nice deal for folks with local Menards stores. 2-tool 12V kit with L-boxxes for $99 after Menards rebate. The same kit with a radio added is $149.
Update: See mnoswad1’s comment and CB’s note about the merchandise credit clauses!
Bosch 12V 2-tool combo $99 after rebate
Bosch 12V 3-tool combo $149 after rebate
The CLPK22-120AL 12V 2-tool combo deal (compared to $179 at Amazon) is a great deal, and the rebate looks to be available for online purchases as well as in-store. I don’t see the sale pricing on the 3-tool combo, but maybe the deal and rebate details are available in stores.
I couldn’t find a printable version of the rebate, so it might be a safer bet to purchase the kits in-store.
This deal is good through 05-18-2014.

7 Corners Store-Closing Sale
John wrote in about a store-closing sale at “7 Corners.”
I think I saw a post on your site (definitely saw it on GJ) about 7 Corners Hardware in the Twin Cities closing a while back. I was on their site this morning and noticed that everything they still have in stock is 50% off – not sure how much more they’ll discount things as closing gets closer and inventory keeps dwindling. Great deals for anyone that needs to buy good tools at a good price.
I made an order for a Pin Nailer, pins, DeWalt Tracksaw track, and a recip saw. Hoping I can convince my wife to spring for a couple of other things for father’s day and my birthday coming up next month.
Note: “All Sales are Final.” In case a tool arrives DOA (dead on arrival), ordering with a credit card offers more protection than ordering with a debit card that deducts funds directly from your checking account.

Some great prices from 7 corners, shipping seems to kill it though.
Mahalo
With you on that, Travis. A set of Channellock pliers going for half-off ended went from $18 all they way to $36 using the most modest means of transport available. I’m not sure where they are located, but I’m sure the best deals can be had by those located in close proximity to the distribution warehouse.

FYI the online stock on 7 corners is pretty dead wrong I would bet. I went in a few days ago and it was pretty much picked over.
RX9
I bet you’re right about that. They did have a few categories come up with nothing, but a lot of good stuff seems to be available for purchase.
I was able to make an order for cordless tools.
I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it actually ships.
Has anyone else tried to order from 7 Corners, and if so, did you get a “we’re sorry but we don’t have your stuff” email/call from them after receiving an order confirmation?
John S
I had a buddy try to order stuff last week and 1 of his 6 items was truly available. I am telling ya – it is picked over and anything that seems too good is probably too good 🙂 haha BUT why not try I guess 🙂
Rx9
Update:
I figured it was worth a try, but I wouldn’t bother with them, even for little stuff as their online ordering system is (like you said) completely out of whack.
The entire order, even little stuff was just cancelled, so I suppose the only people who they’re really still selling to are the brick and mortar customers.
I’m betting that about 9 out of 10 things they have listed for sale are not in stock. It might still be worth another try, but I wouldn’t waste any more time on it.
Rx9
Also, they didn’t call or email to let me know about the cancellation. I found out by checking order status at their website.
I can’t blame them for not bothering, as they’re getting out of the business, and they could probably care less. If I were them though, I would have had the courtesy to at least shut down the web store and auction the remaining odds and ends to a wholesaler.

Rockwell bench vise is $99 on Amazon right now, and available for Prime. I thought that was a decent deal off the usual 129 at other outlets.
Stuart
It dipped a little lower last month, but $99 is still a great price.
I previewed the BenchJaw a while back, and tested a review sample briefly to ensure it was recommendable and of decent quality, but never installed it to my bench. It requires a large L-shaped plate to be permanently fixed to a workbench, and I had been waiting to find a good place to install it. The vise itself can be adjusted for easier positioning or removed for storage, but that plate stays on the workbench.
Mahalo
The installation is kind of what bothers me, too. Having that plate permanently protruding above the surface of a flat workbench seems less than ideal. A regular shop vise would present the same issue, except that you can unbolt it and reclaim your flat work surface. The L-bracket on the BenchJaw seems to be attached with countersink screws, not bolts.
Also, my workbench is a bit taller than usual, and I’ve read some complain that the BenchJaw elevates the piece your working on too much, where it become uncomfortable to use.

Menards rebate is merchandise credit only. As stated in the sunday circular. Seems menards is always store credit for rebates.
Stuart
Thanks for the info!
CB
Add to ad even more disappointment, you need to read the foot note to the small print clause:
“*Please note that the rebate will be in the form of a merchandise credit check that can ONLY be used in store and CANNOT be used on Menards.com as a form of payment.”
Peter Hoh
I don’t think I’m going to be able to pass up the Bosch 12 volt combo. And since Menards is in my neighborhood, I don’t mind the merchandise credit rebate. I will miss 7 Corners. I’ve never seen a better hardware store. The staff knows their stuff, and most of them have been there for a decade or longer. They’re not closing because they were losing money. Rather, the land underneath the store (and the adjacent warehouses and parking lots) became quite valuable, and someone finally made the owner an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Ktash
Thanks, I got a few items at the 7 corners website. Drill bits and hardware. Most everything is gone (power tools, etc). Sorry to see them go.
RX9
Could you put any of the power tools in your cart, or were they unavailable to add?
Ktash
I could put everything I saw on the website in my cart. In fact I got 3 items of hardware and they only shipped one item. It made the total cost much pricier. Luckily, it was the thing I needed unavailable on Amazon, and the other two things were the add-ons. It was still a reasonable cost, but not great.
I called them and they are just shipping what’s left, but the all items gets logged. I’d only order on the phone and make sure they have what you are intending. You don’t want to pay $13 shipping for a $10 item.
In other words, don’t believe the website, call them instead.

7 Corners was effectively the precursor of Amazon re: mail order. Once likely the biggest and best tool retailer out of a single location.
Sad about their demise but real estate is a pretty darn good reason to bail from an increasingly hostile retail environment. RIP.
Ktash
I checked on the Menard’s site and found the rebate form. Unfortunately, the shipping would bring this up over $10 extra. Here’s the form. You have to enter the SKU when asked for. Then you get the rebate.

I need a new small drill since my 12v PC drill batteries are nearing the end of their lives. Two new batteries on Amazon would be $88. So, I’ll likely do online store pickup (no shipping), since I occasionally go near a Menards. These 12v drills are much easier in working inside cabinets than the 18V.
So, thanks for the tip.
