There’s a new Megapro multi-bit screwdriver, a special edition Eclipse model with black handle and black-finish shaft.
It has been a very long time since my first and last review of Megapro screwdrivers. In the years since then, I’ve used a couple of other Megapro screwdrivers, and also their ratcheting screwdriver under Channellock branding. In that time, my very positive opinion of Megapro has only been reinforced.

Megapro’s screwdrivers are not universally comfortable, as their thicker handles can be a downside at times. You can’t buy replacement bits at your local home center, but they are easily available online.
(A word about replacement bits – industrial suppliers beat Amazon’s pricing by a lot. Some other brands’ bits *might* be compatible, but I have never confirmed this.)
I wouldn’t expect that a simple color change would hold my attention so strongly, but I’m really digging the look of the all-black screwdriver.
Bowers Tool, a 3rd party seller on Amazon, seems to be the only source this for “custom limited edition” model. They’re selling it for $23 with free shipping.

I wouldn’t describe Megapro’s multi-bit screwdrivers as the best, but they’re pretty darned good.
Looking further, there’s also an Independence Day limited edition.

I am not a fan of the all plastic handle, nor the attempt at a textured grip. The surface is slippery and provides an unstable surface for gaining ultimate manual torque. I prefer Vessel’s rounded handle, Klein/Southwire’s rubberized grip or even something by Wiha.

LOOOOOVE me some megapro. Personally I can get the bits locally- my commercial hardware supplier has a megapro rack and bits on the counter. In my opinion the BEST megapro is the stainless steel one which has a stainless steel shaft and bits. Unfortunately they don’t have hex bits in the stainless one, however they do have torx bits which will work in a pinch. Also their new bits are 1/4 quick connect compatible should you need to use it in a impact in a pinch. Personally i like that the handles are all plastic, mine end up getting gas or diesel on them and i don’t have to worry about rubber getting eaten.

Don’t they make a few items that use a standard 1/4 hex bit? not all but a few.
Wish they would make more. I get the desire of a double end bit set for say quick grab screwdriver. but for something like a ratcheting item I like standard bits.

Yes they do the automotive model is my go to and you can put any single 1/4″ bit in the driver making very versatile.

Looks an awful lot like the kline 15-1 classic, which I own, except the difference in color, and the way the plastic holds the tips in kline has two tabs that hold each bit, not sure if mega pro and Kline share ideas or manufacturer for each other. I’m electrician and loved 15-1 as improvement on Kline’s multi tip screw drivers, having the ability to have multiple tips is great since now in days it seems the electrical manufacturers are in competition with each other to see who can make parts harder to assemble/disassemble with the most amounts of different type of screws.
I see two improvements that could be mad to this product
If its like my kline, I wish they would interchange the plastic tabs that hold the bits in for metal ones, I dropped my off the top a 10ft ladders peice, the the screwdriver flung open and one the tabs broke now when I open it one of the always trys to fall out
Second black screw driver looks great, but I can see myself losing this screwdriver above a ceiling or dark room, think they need to make more visible.
15-1 classic runs for about $28 online homedepot, and I do believe they have replacement tips, which should work with the mega pro

The 151ECLIPSE Megapro Driver is an all black version of the Original Megapro driver. There is also a new 151SSTP Tamperproof driver that is identical to the 151TP with inverse colors and an upgraded stainless steel shaft. Both were customize by Bowers Tool Co. and are currently only sold on bowerstool.com as well as eBay and Amazon.

Aha… I missed this review when I recently recommended MegaPro screwdrivers. They are indeed excellent and have a very extensive line. And I recentl discovred that they make genuine Robertson™ bits for us Canucks. (Not surprising as they are a Canadian company, although amlost all of the toolds are made in Niles MI.)
