Metabo HPT Tru Range Tape Measure

Metabo HPT has launched a new TruRange 25′ tape measure that’s advertised as delivering category-leading standout and reach.

The TruRange tape measure has 14′ of standout and 17′ of reach, matching advertised claims for Dewalt ToughSeries and Milwaukee Stud 25′ tape measures.

It has a high visibility green blade with black markings for contrast, and double-sided printing for convenience.

The new Metabo HPT tape measure is said to have an ergonomically-designed housing. It has a standard slide lock, and from the looks of it, a finger stop on the bottom.

Price: $28

Discussion

A lot of power tool brands have hand tools, with some diving deeper into the category than others. This looks to be Metabo HPT’s first hand tool, and it’ll be interesting to see if this is a limited entry, or the start of a new focus for the brand.

Metabo HPT seems to be taking on the flagship tape measure models from industry leaders, such as Dewalt (ToughSeries) and Milwaukee (Stud), in which case I would expect to see more durability claims.

The best tools often sell themselves, but I think Metabo HPT is going to need to talk this one up a bit more if they are to have any chance of success in this product category.

This is an interesting if not unusual offering from Metabo HPT, and I’m curious to see where it goes.

Would have liked to see the markings on the tape better. In the photo, the tape looks bent almost into a V. If that is how they are, it would make it stay straight further out. Have to see it in person to know if it would work for me.
    It looks nice and comfortable.

GOOD! DeWalt and Milwaukee need some real competition, and Makita is dropping the ball. Hopefully Hikoki sees this as the opportunity that it is to steal some market share and be the big third player in the market. I want them to flesh out their line because I find their tools incredibly compelling; the quality and control of a Japanese brand with the performance per dollar of an American brand.

I think Tajima bests this. I also have one that you can write info on the side if you don’t use your phone or pad. I’ve some FatMax and a Johnson tapes that I think better than Dewalt, Milwaukee and now this Metabo. Komelon has a stainless steel 25′ that is reliable for outdoors work.
*Lee Valley has some good tapes..one I got for a gift for older buddy is their BlindMan’s tape (no fractions, just BIG tick marks).
I use Luftkin, Fastcap, Fatmax (several throughout house). I would suggest Starrett but now that its no longer family-owned…unless you come across Made in USA tapes…

One thing I would like for a tape measure is compartment, under the clip, for AirTag or such. I keep losing tapes!!!

It looks competitive, but not superior.

What is “TruRange” supposed to convey? That feels like it’s implying other tapes are lying about their range.

I was going to type name seems odd.

Markings would sell me on it maybe. I still use the fat max I got some 12 years ago. I’d like better markings but they aren’t bad.

Frustrating that their promotional images of their new tape measure don’t include images of THE ACTUAL TAPE MEASURE. I don’t care about how sexy the exterior wrap is…I want to see that tape!

I really like this tape: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BDGLG4F5/

High-visibility, fractional notations, and two-sided (horizontal and vertical measurements).

I always spray paint green and black tools a bright contrasting color for when they fall into the grass, especially as it gets darker out.
