Over at Home Depot, there’s a Milwaukee M12 5-tool cordless power tool combo kit, 2499-25P, listed as a special buy for $199.

The kit comes with a drill, Hackzall reciprocating saw, impact driver, oscillating multi-tool, LED worklight, (3) 1.5Ah compact Li-ion battery packs, a charger, and carrying case.
5 tools and 3 batteries. Nice. And it all comes out to just under $200. This is a better than the Bosch 3-tool combo kit I just posted about, at least from a “bang for the buck” standpoint.
Actually, this might be one of the best 12V-class cordless tool combo deals I remember seeing in a while. I’d say that most DIYers or pro users could find uses for all of the tools here, and if not all of them, probably 4 out of 5.

A lot of tools for #199! But not the latest Fuel version – quel dommage – but not surprising at this price point. The Hackzall was the model we bought when it first came out – and was an OK tool for cutting plastic drain lines and other under-the-sink tubing. Its short stroke and lack of power does not make it a substitute for a real sawzall or even the newer M12 and M18 Hackzall’s. The M12oscillation tool – we thought to be underpowered – but we were used to corded Fein Multicuts.
For the homeowner who’s looking for a light-duty fixer-upper set – not planning any a major construction job – this would be nice under the Christmas tree

I purchased the hackzall for light plumbing (under sink type of applications) and pvc frame construction. It sounds like you’re doing much heavier work. Do you think this will fit my needs?

I use my non-fuel hackzall all the time for that kind of stuff, I think you’ll be just fine. The tip I’ve found, look for the hackzall specific blades online. They’re geared to specific materials, and are thin kerf. My HD doesn’t carry them however. If you go for full size sawzall blades, look for the thin kerf ones. The thick blades do work fine, they’re just slower and seem to expose the limitations of the tool.
Runtime with the compact batteries won’t be great, particularly on the brushed version, but for DIY or occasional usage, you’ll be just fine. Might be worth picking up the 4Ah battery (or 6Ah) for it if you wind up using it somewhat often.
For your usage, or light pruning duties, drywall cutting with a drywall sawzall blade, etc., you’ll do just fine with this one.

Just don’t plan on cutting 2x lumber with it, you will be there a while. Out of all the tools in the bundle, that would be the one I would try to sell & upgrade to the Fuel model, but I used mine for a LOT of pruning, and does a great job at it

We did work on everything from small stainless steel tubing for laboratories to big ductile iron pipe.
For residential and office work, we had 16 of them – when I retired 5 years ago. The guys liked them for cutting in tight spaces. But they chose other tools for cutting galvanized pipe, unistrut, pipe hangers, threaded rod and even flange bolts etc. Anywhere they had the room for a full-sized sawzall or cordless band saw they probably set the hackzall aside. I think they’ve been switching over to either the M12 Fuel version or M18 version Hackzalls for tight space removal work. For me – I still like hand tools – like “imp” tubing cutters for some tight space work – but I’m doing such work infrequently if at all these days

I picked this up over the holiday weekend from my local HD. Definitely a good deal. The hackzall/charger with 1 battery was on sale for $99 by itself, which is what I was looking to purchase.
If you buy a pair of standard m12 batteries, they are $60. 4 more tools for essentially $40 seemed like the way to go.
So far I’ve used the 1/4″ driver and the flashlight 4-5 times and I really like them. My bigger impact drivers are a lot heavier, so this stuff will work very well for my son or wife.

Good bang for the buck, but I wouldn’t buy it myself because I’d always be wishing I had spent a little more and gone with the fuel lineup. The hackzall I wouldn’t mind having though. It’s significantly smaller and lighter than the fuel version and the shorter stroke is often better in tight places.

They have a kit with the M12 Fuel hammer drill and 1/4 inch impact driver plus a non-Fuel jigsaw with one standard battery and one extended run battery plus charger for $199. This might be a better choice for woodworking folks like me.

Why does everyone keep saying that about holiday deals?
Combos like this are specially built, assembled, and sold for the holiday shopping season.
The M12 Fuel + Packout combos? That’s a special order that has to be planned out months in advance. They didn’t just say “hey, let’s dump all of our remaining M12 Fuel drills and drivers before the 2nd generation tools come out.”
The launch of the second generation drills and impact driver might have been pushed back for any number of reasons. Maybe production priority was given to the new brushless ratchets, who knows.
But I can tell you that brushed motor tools aren’t going anywhere. They’re not being clearanced en masse.
Milwaukee will continue to sell brushed motor tools alongside their latest generation of brushless ones.
Why wouldn’t they? They would lose a LOT of sales, customers, and market share if they all of a sudden stopped, unless they had next-gen tools that can be sold at the same price point and in combo kits or promo kits at the same price and value level. I don’t see that happening any time soon.
Before Thanksgiving, supermarkets put out big displays filled with frozen turkeys. Does that mean they’re trying to unload their turkeys before Christmas hams come in? Or that they’re gearing up to sell a lot of turkey to turkey shoppers? Same thing.

Whoa there buddy…. Didn’t mean to strike a nerve. I was only commenting on the fact that the new M12 fuel combo is now set to release in Jan when I was planning on Dec(originally).
It was(and I know it gets lost in these comment rolls) being sarcastic. I promise to next time explain myself better to avoid long winded detailed observations on how tools are marketed during the holiday season.
I appreciate the insight and the next time I reach for my m12 brushed single speed brushed motor impact with sub 1000 in lbs of torque I will thank Milwaukee Claus for catering this tool, specially kitted, just for me and all of the other worker elves

Sorry, I meant my comment lightly. I didn’t mean it to come across in any other way. I thought my Turkey comment would have helped set the proper light mood.
I have heard it a LOT this holiday season, though, about how everything is being dumped, unloaded, or similar, to make way for something newer or better.
I just don’t know how to dispel that notion. I wasn’t entirely replying to you, as much as I saw another good opportunity to comment about the matter in general.
Even though you were being sarcastic, people do think that to be true. That’s why I didn’t see it as sarcasm. However, my comment would have been the same even if I detected your sarcasm.
In another post, someone commented that Dewalt should abandon all brushed motor tools and only sell premium brushless tools from now on, and that doing so would be better fitting for their pro-tools brand image.
If you don’t spell it out, I have to take comments at face value, because that’s what others might do.

Looked into buying the kit JUST to keep the hackzall/charger/1 battery.
Sold eBay listings for all the other items, added individually, only total $210. Take off 30% for fees and shipping, you might net around $150. So the hackzall kit would be $50. Still not free.

I bought the special M12 Fuel impact driver / pack out kit for $99.00 at HD knowing the Gen 2 is coming out. When I was looking at it in the store, an associate came over and I shared my dilemma (buy now or wait.) He suggested grabbing the deal today and then leave the box sealed until the Gen 2 ships to stores in early 2018. Then decide what to do. They have a 90 day return policy and he said that if the box is still sealed, then the return is even easier. Anyway, seems obvious in retrospect, but it wasn’t that day.
Conclusion: Buy what looks like a good deal today and return later if you have buyer’s remorse. There will be plenty of folks disappointed with themselves in the new year for not grabbing some of these deals. (That was me last year.)

FYI, at Home Depot stores near me, they had the $199 Milwaukee drill/impact and hacksaw combo and you get your choice of one of 5-6 different m12bare tools: Vac, ratchet, led work light, etc.
A decent deal to be sure, but now it’s ringing up for $160 on clearance and the free tool still applies.
Plus – Milwaukee folks needing a few tools here and there, watch your local CL. Quite a few folks buying up the combos and parting out the bare tools at better prices than you’ll ever see them at web/retail/eBay bare tool pricing.
I just bought the led flashlight for $20 and the hacksaw for $50 from a guy who had bought up the combo this post is advertising. Decent deals without having to do all the re-selling myself.
As per usual for me, I’ll be converting them both to my Bosch 12 volt batteries.
If you cut the Milwaukee battery compartment end off about a 3/8” inch and reverse the polarity of the contacts, the Bosch battery slips (and latches) right into place.
