Home Depot has dropped the price of Milwaukee’s new M12 cordless drill/driver kit (2407-22) from $129 to $99. The drill features a 3/8″ chuck, 2-speed gearbox (0-400/0-1500 RPM), and delivers up to 275 in-lbs of torque.
For $99, you get the drill/driver, (2) 1.5Ah Li-ion batteries, an M12 charger, removable belt clip, and hard-shell carrying case.

In a few weeks we will probably see others brands’ older models drop in price to the $100 price point for the holidays, but as of now, this is the best bang-for-the-buck professional-grade compact cordless drill/driver that we know of.

In case you’re in the market for a compact impact driver, Milwaukee’s new M12 impact driver kit (2462-22) has also dropped in price to $99. This too, in my opinion, is the best bang-for-the-buck 1/4″ hex impact driver currently available as well.
The impact delivers up to 1,000 in-lbs of torque and has a 0-2500 RPM gearbox.

As there is no mention of a promo period, we cannot tell whether these cordless kits are now permanently priced at $99, or if they’re temporarily on sale.

I may have to stop reading ToolGuyd – my bank account and willpower are both getting low. 🙂 Nevertheless, keep up the good deal posts – I managed to snag one of the M18 Fuel kit + free tool deals before the pricing mistake was discovered. $299 for a kit that normally costs $399, plus a free tool – not bad!

As for the $299 Fuel kits, those were crazy-good prices. Too bad they were changed back to $399.

Most brands’ brushed-motor 12V-class drills and impact drivers are fairly competitive with one another, so it’s hard to say which is *best*.
With these kits, you get the latest-generation brushed-motor tools with modernized ergonomics and balance. The kits don’t come with the latest 2.0Ah batteries, but at a $99 price point I wouldn’t expect them to.
My feeling is that these are great value picks, and based on specs and designs, if they’re not top performers, they will at least come very close.

As a tool reviewer you can’t be biased and call any one tool “best”, I understand that but the numbers speak for themselves. In every test category PTR did, the 2 Milwaukee impacts tested were on top.

How do you feel about the results of the round up conducted by ptr for the 12v impacts drivers, do the numbers speak for themselves? Or are they misleading? And also do you suspect manipulation?

I think the results are relatively reliable, although I would have preferred to see the tools all tested with the same size batteries for fairer apples-to-apples comparison.
But in general, I don’t like number comparisons. There are too many factors that could skew them. Are the batteries factory-fresh or have they been laying around or in use for a year or two? Testing with two fasteners sizes is better than with one, but 3 or 4 would be even better.

I like your way of thinking. Agreed they should disclose if the batteries are new or old and all should be the same size. If you look at the results in run time, the Bosch had a bigger battery but had a proportional increase when compared to the next top performer with a smaller battery.
I think you would make great tool round ups or comparisons as you seem to have what it takes to make some great results like testing with more than just one fastener size.

A little while ago Homey D had a special on a Milwaukee 2601-21 18V drill/driver for 99 smacks. I was needing an extra charger and a slim battery pack (all the 18V Milwaukee batteries I have are the full size) anticipating getting another heated jacket and using the 18V power as well as lightening up the tools for overhead use. It was actually cheaper to buy the drill kit than it was to buy the charger and battery alone. Last thing I needed was yet another drill, but it was too good to pass up, the drill is not low-end. Bonus with the drill kit was the charger was the new combo 12&18V unit. Of all the usual “99 dollar drill kits” that crop up, this was a killer value despite having only one battery. The usual DeWalt NiCd set that has been showing up for years is a serviceable unit, but it is at least a ten year old design and the batteries are low-end lightweights. I hope they continue offering “better” kits at slammin’ prices rather than mediocre stuff normally found this time of year.
The M12 tools are all fantastic. I have a bit more Bosch in 12 (and 18) volts and they are still my preferred, but Milwaukee really stepped up their game not only with a huge variety of tools, but making existing tools that much better. Anything in the Fuel series raised the bar in performance for cordless tools. I only have a Fuel M18 hammerdrill and M12 1/4″ square drive impact wrench, but the drill is equivalent of 28 and 36 volt tools of a few years back, and the M12 stuff makes early 18 volt gear look sad.
