Milwaukee M12 Trapsnake Cordless Urinal Auger Used in Bathroom

Milwaukee has launched a new M12 TrapSnake urinal auger, model 3574, which looks to be an update to the original 2574 model that was introduced in 2017.

The new Milwaukee M12 TrapSnake is part of a modular system, allowing users to select between manual and powered drivers and different auger attachments depending on the application.

As with the original, Milwaukee maintains that the TrapSnake delivers “versatility and capabilities never seen before in a urinal auger.”

The TrapSnake system is designed for clearing clogs in toilets, urinals, floor traps, sinks, bathtubs, and shower drains.

The auger features a cable lock, for holding the cable in place during extension and retraction, and a fixed rubber boot to help prevent scratches to porcelain fixtures.

This particular configuration, with a 3/8″ x 4′ urinal auger configuration, is recommended for use in drains 1-1/4″ to 2″ wide. Common applications includes clearing out clogged urinals and floor traps.

If you need something different, the TrapSnake 25′ auger has a 1/4″ x 25′ cable for use in sinks, bathtubs, and showers, and the TrapSnake toilet auger has a 1/2″ x 6′ cable for use in toilets and floor traps.

The new TrapSnake looks to have all the same features as the previous model.

The original model also featured a modular driver, cable lock, rubber boot, and replaceable auger cable.

It’s not clear to me what’s different or improved in this new model, at least from a functional standpoint, but it seemed worth giving you a heads-up.

For all you residential and commercial plumbers out there – is the TrapSnake part of your kit?

Price: $159 for the kit with charger and 1.5Ah battery, $59 for the manual auger kit, $99 for the M12 driver kit

Following is a demo video for the original model. Much of what’s said and shown about that model looks to be carried over to this new one.

Milwaukee TrapSnake Toilet Auger

I recently came across the manual toilet auger at Home Depot, in a seasonal promotional display. It’s currently advertised as a Father’s Day Savings deal only.

Happy Father’s Day, here’s a toilet snake?! It does look to be a handy tool to have. The M12 snake is great, but perhaps a bit much for most home users.

If you’re a plumber or maintaining a large building get one.

But for the homeowner I recommend the airsnake. Anything it can’t handle probably is better of with a plumber anyway.

I’ve used the M12 Airsnake (I’m a service plumber) many times, and wouldn’t recommend it as a homeowner tool. The kit costs roughly twice what the Trapsnake does, and the tool itself has the potential to make a huge mess. I’ve been with apprentices who have painted the bathroom with black sludge when they pop the trigger.

A homeowner would be better off with a drain zipper and a small hand powered toilet auger or accordion plunger.

I could not tell if the M12 driver was updated, or the same. I remembered looking for it for some project at some point and eBay was full of them for very cheap. I had though the system was not selling well.

Milwaukee throws these things in free with almost any possibly related plumbing purchase.

I have one and I can’t even remember how I got it; maybe it was free (after rebate?) with the airsnake.

At least three times, you have “toiler” (or its plural) in place of “toilet”.

I have 72 urinals at my job site, I wish this was a magic tool that would get the trapped urea out of the urinal trap. Unfortunately if the trap is clogged the line to the main most likely is as well.
On a side note, I augered a belt out of the toilet trap last week… Buckle and full belt wrapped thru the trap like a snake. That was fun.

I’m afraid to ask how something like that happens.

When we would do our (plumbing business) monthly wrap-ups of lessons learned (safety, productivity, new products/tools etc.) we’d usually hear the shaggy-dog stories. They could range from unusual and inventive ways that customers had tried to install or fix plumbing issues with lots of tales about what we had retrieved form drain/sewer lines. I never heard about any alligators – but kid’s toys and soiled undergarments were an oft repeated theme. The best one I remember was about a 1/2 grapefruit that was stuck in a commode.

Overall, this looks like a good upgrade. Us service guys will appreciate the modularity.

Grateful that I’m not in a line of work that uses urinal augers.

Thanks to all of you who are.
