I stopped in Home Depot to see if they put out the Holiday displays yet and found this gem of a deal. For $99 you can either get a Milwaukee M12 Fuel hammer drill kit or impact driver kit in a Packout compact organizer.
Right now, the compact Packout organizer is selling for $30. Taking that into consideration, the other $70 gets you an M12 Fuel 1/2″ hammer drill, 2.0 Ah battery, and charger, making this look like a pretty good deal.

It seems that the Special Buy Packout doesn’t appear to have any bins, although it does come with a special insert for the drill kit.

One had nothing out at all, the other had a seasonal section cordoned off and filled with closed brown boxes of all the Special Buys. I was at Home Depot to pick up the m12 fuel screwdriver or the 2 speed m12 screwdriver but neither is carried in the 2 stores I checked. I hope they put one of those tools in the pack out! Maybe with 2 batteries instead of the charger as the m18 charger has a spot for m12.

The packout included only is for parts. No way they would included 2 fuel tools for under $100, but we can always hope. They have to include the charger instead of 2 batteries, otherwise most wouldn’t buy it once they see a charger is $40 (or <$15 on craigslist), and many won't have the 18v/12v combo charger, though some will
The 18v single tool kits (w/ one battery & charger) for $99 are brushless this year. I have a pic somewhere of it.

I spotted those M18 kits for $119 so far. I know they’re going to be $99 as well, based on historical trends and the current one, but haven’t seen proof yet.

I did notice the Fuel w/ PackOut are Gen1 models. booo! (and not a Halloween pun). Guess they wanted a way to get rid of old stock. I was really thinking the Gen2 stuff would be part of a holiday promo too. Perhaps I shouldn’t have sold my so quickly…

Is there any use for a tiny hammerdrill like that? I get the drill use, but why the hammer function? Is it powerful enough?
Even my Makita XPH07 was kind of a dog hammering 1/2″x2.5″ holes into 40 year old concrete. Maybe that called for a rotary hammer. First time doing concrete. Was I using the wrong tool?

As an electrician, yes. For small/typical stuff my M12 Fuel’s see more action than do my M18s. I love that they fit into my hammer loop when using the slim batteries and the 2.0Ah lasts a long while.
I’ve never used my cordlesseseses for anything more than a 1/4 plug. The 18 is a bit quicker, but anything more than that and I’d haul out an SDS drill. I’m not sure you’d have much fun with any non-SDS drill doing what you did. The mechanism and everything about the SDS is vastly superior to a drill/driver when going into concrete. It will work in a pinch – as you witnessed, but it’s far from ideal.

It was a bear. Took forever. The drill could do it, but it was my no means quick. Don’t know whether to use high or low gear for that. Did it on low. High started smoking my bosch bit

A few years ago I compared Bosch and Milwaukee M12 hammer drills. They could both do 3/8″ in a pinch. A few smaller holes shouldn’t be a problem.

I used what I had, I’m guessing that the bore size and depth and possibly using the low gear had it take a bit

With hammer, you don’t need low gear, I used the same hammer drill into concrete with the Bosch bulldog bits and it was drilling 6″ deep 3/8″ holes in about 30 seconds each, lots of them on the same bit.

It works okay for pilot holes for Tapcons. Maybe slower than an SDS, but a heck of a lot lighter. I’m happy to have it.

SDS drill all the way … wore out my corded hammer drill and 24v cordless trying to drill some holes for 1 hour. Corded SDS did every hole in 20 secs. ( bought makita and combo set of drills and chisels off amazon )

They had a Packout pack… the “cart” the taller box, and the shallow box, for $289 cdn yesterday. As much as I’d love to trade in (up) my current Dewalt and Rigid boxes for that, $300 for 2 empty boxes and 1 with semi-useful bins is really expensive. They do look really nice and feel quality tho.

I just wish they’d get the Pack out stuff in-store so I could check it out in person. There may be some movement in the making since Home Depot lowered the prices of both the Dewalt and Milwaukee stand alone organisers by 5 dollars each to 14.99 and 19.99 respectively.
I have used a couple of the Dewalt boxes for a few years now at work. One set up as a lighting kit with wirenuts, multi-conductor push-in connectors, lamp holders, power quick disconnects, a couple of small , retro-fit ballasts (Workhorse brand. Awesome products), and some assorted mounting fasteners. Altogether a great setup. The other is set up for commercial cooking ranges. Infinite switches, indicator lamps, element terminal blocks, terminals, etc. Works well.
Takeaways. If you are using these in a service truck make sure you are using organisers with metal latches and preferably metal pins in the hinges. These have held up remarkably well. I will likely switch over to the Milwaukee models for one reason. The handle lays flush along the top giving you an additional bin inside. And the overall footprint is nearly identical to the DeWalt. And it has the sealing gasket too. The Pack out may change all that but at that price point I will be leaning toward Sortimo for bin organisers. Don’t know about those plastic latches though.

According to the Milwaukee rep I talked to today, packout will be hitting Home Depot stores starting nov 13th as part of Black Friday Pro sales. It will be the three box combo, no clear lidded organizers or totes.

Yes I have both the non fuel and fuel ratchet. The fuel is more built like a standard air ratchet for has the size of the head. It’s a lot more beefy than the non fuel. It’s also stronger but if your in a really tight spot the head on the non fuel is a lot smaller. I wouldn’t hesitate buying either one again.

I spoke with a Milwaukee rep at Home Depot today. They showed me their instruction sheet that detailed when/where products should be put out and how they should be displayed, etc. she said the packout trio is supposed to go on sale on 13 November. I’m guessing the stores showing as 199 have them in stock but can’t sell them until then.

The bins from my Milwaukee organizer (non-Packout) fit…. but then it’s five less bins in my wirenut organizer and I’m in the same place I started.

Sorry, I don’t know of any source to buy them individually.
You might want to try contacting Milwaukee. They, or perhaps a regional rep, might be able to sell you just a couple of [replacement?] bins for a few bucks. Then again, with shipping, it might end up costing as much as a new organizer with a full complement of bins.

Check out this spec sheet, fig 2. It shows a part number for a “bin kit” that has 1 large and 4 small. Not sure where you could buy these except direct thru Milwaukee. Contact their sales dept and I bet they can get you some; i’ve had good luck speaking with them.
