If you want the newer version of the impact driver, or a drill/driver, those M12 kits are also on sale, for $99 (before coupon).
While it might seem redundant for the screwdriver and impact driver to be bundled together, they actually complement each other nicely. The screwdriver is better suited where you need to adjustable clutch to avoid over-torquing screws, and the impact is better suited when you need greater application speed when working with longer or larger fasteners.

This is weird as a kit and a drill and impact combo is the usual norm. The screwdriver isn’t horrible as you get a clutch, but you are limited to hex shank accessories for everything which is fine for 90% of the population. It just seems like they built this kit going what do we have too much of in the warehouse and need to get rid of that’s all. It’s probably not how it worked it was Home Depot asking Milwaukee what can you sell us so that we can price it for 99 dollars during the holidays.

That’s right, with this kit you can drive screws, or REALLY drive screws. I’ve tried drilling with the 1/4″ socketed drill bits, and it isn’t fun.
The only thing I can make of this kit is it may be a good completion kit for someone who bought just the drill/driver.

I just have a simple question about this….
I decided to jump into the M12 stuff after begging for my Makita 9.6 volt drill driver to DIE already… It still hasn’t. So, for Christmas my wife okayed the new 4 pole drill driver which cost us $79 for the kit at Ace. What I am wondering is whether I can get a recommendation that its better to buy the 4 pole impact kit at $99 or to go with this set…. I am of the mindset that I can get a nice Irwin hex chuck for my drill, but the whole “tool envy” thing makes me wonder if its worth it to get the older impact with the screwdriver…….

If you buy the impact and screwdriver kit now and don’t use the screwdriver ever at all, then you would have spent $15 more than for just the impact kit. If that’s the case, you could always try selling off the bare tool.
If you buy just the impact and later on want an M12 screwdriver, it will cost you a lot more than $15 extra.
It’s a tough decision, and I’m having trouble determining which direction to try to steer you towards.
Keep in mind that this kit is already sold out online and that store supplies are running out. If you wait much longer, then the decision might be made for you.

If you can’t kill the Makita, feel free to send it to me. Haha. I love those drills. I mean they obviously aren’t extremely powerful or anything, but they sure are troopers. I still have a drill and a right angle drill that I use from time to time and they work great. The only issue now is finding batteries for them.
Joe
Well,
I appreciate you thoughts. I already have the drill kit though, (in the package until Christmas) so I guess I will have to go with the 4 pole impact kit for $99.
I really don’t see that much use in the screwdriver at this point, so the better impact will be the way to go. I’m just a weekend warrior/woodworker with an 1800’s home, so if I can’t kill 30 year old drill, I suppose this will last me a lifetime of driving screws and bolts.
Thanks again!
Joe

You’re welcome! That’s the path I probably would have taken as well. If you plan to order from Home Depot, note that the $5 off $50 and $10 off $100 coupon codes expire tonight (details).

I was cruising HD for charcoal and wandered over to the power tools as usual and I found this kit for 79 + my military 10%. I thought this kit was worth 76 dollars.
