Home Depot still has a bunch of promos left over from the Father’s Day shopping season, including 2 new Milwaukee M18 cordless drill and impact driver promo kits.
These kits aren’t very exciting. The drill kit features the 2606 drill/driver, but it’s bundled with a 3Ah battery pack. In the past, it’s been bundled with a compact battery, or compact battery and LED flashlight. And last winter, the promo kit was for a compact brushless drill with compact battery.

All things taken into context, this is still a good deal. It offers a 3Ah battery pack, similar to Makita’s past promo kits, which makes the kit a better “gateway” kit for users looking to expand into Milwaukee’s M18 lineup in a more economical way.
With this kit, you get a drill starter kit, but can also add (most) heavier duty Milwaukee tools without worrying about whether the battery will suffice.

The same is true with this Milwaukee 2656 impact driver kit.

And while the tools won’t really turn heads anymore, they’re no-compromise solutions boasting very good specs. In this impact driver’s case, it delivers 1500 in-lbs of max torque.
It’s a good value, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think last season’s brushless impact driver promo kit was a slightly better value.

Looking around, these seem to be the last 18V-class $99 promo drill and impact driver kits on sale. Dewalt and Makita offerings seem to have been bumped up to their off-season prices already.
There are a bunch of $99 M12 kits still available, including an M12 drill, impact driver, and bonus battery kit. There’s also a Bosch 12V Max drill and impact driver combo kit for $99.

I guarantee that these promo kits were built and kitted for the Father’s Day shopping season. The quantities that Milwaukee ships to stores and warehouses for these promos are not residuals they’re simply looking to clearance.

I’m amused that many seem to think that brushed-motors will be totally eliminated right away from everyone’s lineups. I would think that an economy model tool – will always have an appeal – and if cost dictates it come with a brushed motor – then so be it.
For an analogy – there are times when a V-12 Ferrari would be nice to drive – but its good to know that we can buy a 4-cylinder run about if that suits our needs.

I picked up a couple of the brushless drill kits on clearance a couple of months ago, mainly for the compact batteries. At $54 each it was hard to pass up. This looks good for someone in the market for a basic drill that can serve as a gateway into the rather large M18 system.

Lowe’s has DeWalt’s brushless impacts and drills for $99. Very interesting that they receive no mention while this one does.

2 reasons. First, these are the “standard” tools Milwaukee sells year-round, but in special kits. Dewalt’s are special mass market kits that were seemingly designed to see for $99 each by the pallet.
But the more important reason – I checked a few of the places where the Dewalt kits were $99, and they are either out of stock or $125+.
Additionally, these stood out to me, because this is a first-ever configuration for Milwaukee, that I’ve seen. It sets both a precedent, and serves as a historical reference for future holiday season deal analyses.

Maybe the reason is that DeWalt is about half as good as the Milwaukee. Besides DeWalt is owned by black and Decker. All you need to know.

This is ToolGuyd – so most of what we talk about here should indeed just be tools. Not surprisingly – folks who read ToolGuyd and post here have interests in tools – perhaps even passions about them – and by extension the brands of tools that they like. While I have some ownership in tool companies via my owning a fair number of mutual funds – I hope that I’m not so invested in any brand that it would cloud my thinking about them. I try to reserve my emotions like love to living beings rather than inanimate objects like tools. I also hope that I’m pragmatic enough to realize that we often form opinions about things like tools based on statistically insignificant sample sizes from our past experience. I therefore, try to keep an open mind about new tools, various brands and the experience of others – welcoming these sorts of discussions and thanking ToolGuyd for providing a forum to have them.

Home depot’s Milwaukee combos look good right now too. They have two brushed 5 + 1 kits for $399, a brushless fuel driver, impact and the new fuel hackzall for $349, and a 10 tool combo for $629.00.
If I was looking for a kit I’d seriously consider one of them.

Sorry but Fuel only. I understand the whole cost deal.. for diyers an home owners. But any Milwaukee thats non fuel is junk imo. You can say what you want but i just know too many people with bad experiences with them. To me its not about yeah this tool is made so it can affordable for others. They truly arent great at all. An idk what to recommend to someone other than fuel. Dewalt max 20v i suppose… even that in a brushed version is better than Milwaukees brushed stuff… my boss almost ordered some milwaukee brushless kits. Not fuel. I just said no way. Stick with fuel. Srry ill shut up. But its the truth folks.
