Milwaukee has officially announced their new M18 Fuel brushless cordless 9-inch cut-off saw, which is powerful enough to cut reinforced concrete. Milwaukee showed off some of what the new saw could do at their NPS19 new tool media event, and it did look impressive.

The new Milwaukee M18 Fuel cut-off saw, 2786, is said to be up to 50% lighter than gas saws of comparable performance. And, since it doesn’t burn fuel, there are none of the headaches typically associated with gas engine tools.

Milwaukee says that the new saw is an extremely versatile solution for cutting a large variety of materials, capable of cutting reinforced concrete, bricks, blocks, and other masonry materials.
The saw can also cut metal construction materials, such as black pipe, cast iron, and rebar.
The saw comes with an abrasive blade for cutting metal, and a diamond blade for cutting masonry materials, so that users can get to work as soon as the tool is out of the box.

Milwaukee added a reminder in press materials that the M18 Switch Tank is a perfect pairing for the new M18 Fuel cut-off saw. The Switch Tank is a cordless-powered 4-gallon backpack water supply that delivers instant, constant, and adjustable water at up to 60 PSI.
The M18 Switch Tank features a dual diaphragm pump, 20-60 PSI pressure range with 5 modes, 0.16 to 1.13 GPM flow rate, and 10′ quick connect hose. It weighs 18.45 lbs with the powered base, tank assembly, and an XC 3.0Ah battery.
Milwaukee says that the saw is an OSHA Table 1 Compliant Solution when paired with the M18 Switch Tank backpack water supply.
To be compliant with the OSHA regulation on respirable crystalline silica dust (29 CFR 1926.1153) companies must prove they are under the PEL by following Table 1 standards, demonstrating objective data, or conducting their own self-monitoring programs, as laid out by OSHA.

But to the tool- It looks awesome. Having the ability to put the backpack sprayer on is awesome. I doubt that i’ll end up with this tool at $599.99 but if it has a special on it and the NEED arises… I’ll certainly make the justification lol.

Milwaukee’s photo shows using this to cut a slab, but the max cut depth isn’t enough to go through most slabs. I really like it but it only seems good for cutting concrete blocks and things like that.

It ain’t a 12 inch blade for sure and until they get a blade bigger than 9″ it can never replace a larger gas powered saw but 3 something inches is deep enough for a control joint, a d its indoor capable. If you have one sitting around, I’m sure you could find more uses for it than just cutting blocks… But still a very pricy toy

If it proves to have the power – it will be a great alternative – especially for indoor use. The guys complained that the corded Bosch that we had seemed to often trip its GFCI breaker – so they wanted to use one of our engine-driven tools. But for small indoor spaces – that was a no-no. I remember looking into the hydraulic saws that one of our subs used – but they (with their pump – hoses etc.) were way too pricey for our needs.

SO far I see Dewalt, STIHL and now Milwaukee have cordess power models. I see miwaukee has a closed battery box. I don’t recall seeing that on the dewalt model.

I always think there is a hidden brand designing tools for all brands we know and with a bit of modifications they serve it for each brand. That is why I also don’t believe there is a competition between the brands, it looks like a game sometimes to me, I have come to a conclusion that whenever I see or I hear anything to look at that as something suspicious at first and then that helps me to analyse it more further in my mind, it needs a bit of training to direct the mind in first seconds to think that way, but after a while it becomes a habit actually.

complete side note – which dewalt would partner with someone to make a battery powered backpack sprayer. I’m about to buy a new one and all the cordless ones are very spendy.

The DeWalt DOES have a closed battery compartment. Also, I just found a hell of a deal @ ACME tools. The DeWalt is $849.00 plus tax which turns out to be $900.00.
At ACME, it is $699.00 (no tax) for the the 2 9 amp battery kit AND you get your choice of a free bare tool…including the FlexVolt Worm Drive. Which is what I chose. That package alone with tax is $1,164, which saved me $465.00. So @ the link above, pick the ACME option.

Looks exactly like the DeWalt. Heard good things about the DeWalt saw. Team Red hit a home run if it runs as good as the DeWalt. Milwaukee gets the win because of the self contained water source tho.

I wonder how many cuts it will do on one battery? Obviously it varies with the material being cut but it’d be nice if there was some kind of range given in terms of what kind of performance buyers could expect. It may be worth it for some buyers even if it only makes a few cuts per battery given that you get two and presumably won’t be buying this in place of a gas or corded model for all-day jobsite use.
The water tank seems like a pretty good idea, versus having to hook up to a hosed water supply, especially for a cordless saw. I’ll be impressed when they come out with a M18 atmospheric water generator instead, though.

Having watched videos I don’t think this has the same power as the DeWalt… It’s overload light comes on cutting basic cement blocks… Usually the dewalt cuts them like butter

This is late, but I want to mention that the diamond blade they used at the show is different than the one they ship with the saw. Which leads me to believe that they needed a higher quality blade to keep up with the demo.
Having just used it yesterday I can 100% tell you that this saw will overheat batteries cutting hollow block. Disappointing.
