Milwaukee 60 inch Mobile Workcenter with Pegboard

Last week we gave you a quick first look at the new Milwaukee 60″ mobile work center, model 48-22-8560. We’ve gathered some more info, and to be frank the new mobile tool storage and work center seems even more appealing.

To start, here are the dimensions: 38.2″ tall, 24.4″ deep, 69.2″ wide.

In the teaser post, someone commented that they hoped it wasn’t just 18″ deep. It’s not. The worktop is 22″ deep.

The worksurface is 1-inch thick, made from hardwood, and is reversible. After you’ve put the work center through plenty of use and abuse, you can flip the worksurface.

Milwaukee Work Center Tool Holder

The Milwaukee work center has oodles of tool holder and organizational options. There’s a tool holder, shown here with common hand tools, a side shelf that can be positioned at different heights, and a full-width pegboard.

The pegboard is adjustable, and can be used at mid-height or full-height, with locking thumb screws holding it securely in place. It also comes with brackets and mounting brackets for more secure permanent placement.

A lockable cabinet with adjustable shelf allows you to store taller tools and supplies than would fit elsewhere.

Milwaukee Work Center Deep Drawer for Power Tools

A large deep drawer with vertical divider creates places for your larger power tools.

Milwaukee Work Center Drill and Driver Tool Holder

There’s also another deep drawer with a tool holder size for drills, drivers, and impact wrenches.

First Thoughts

As far as mobile tool cabinets go, this one is pretty different. It’s choc-full of enhancements and decent specs, at a reasonable price.

I like that there are two half-width drawers, although I know some would rather have a full-width drawer.

The cabinet seems useful, and although I would rather see more shallow drawers, I already know what kinds of tools I would toss into the work center’s deep drawers.

The worktop is pretty spacious, and deeper than I expected. 22″ deep, and around 60″ wide? Nice!

At this price, I don’t think I would have expected a 1″ hardwood top. It’s also nice to know that it’s reversible.

Milwaukee says that the 60″ mobile tool cabinet is made with a reinforced angle iron frame for ultimate durability.

They also say that the tool cabinet was designed with the function and organization options that professional users need every day. I’m not sure that this will be used in professional settings, but they’re definitely going to sell a whole lot of them.

To sum it up, you get 11 drawers, a cabinet, a 22″ multi-position metal pegboard, a tool holder, shelf, mounting position for an M18/M12 battery charger, and internal organization for the deeper drawers. Plus that 22″ deep reversible worktop.

All this, for just $600. What’s the catch? Surely there must be a catch, right? I’m not seeing it through the drool.

I was going to build a steel frame workbench with hardwood top and then just use rolling cabinets underneath the bench. This might save me a lot of work and time. I don’t mind the red and black color combo, but it just doesn’t match the rest of the color I have in the garage. Call it crazy, but when I drop the coin, I want it to match. This is a good enough deal that one could still justify scuffing and spraying on a coat to match. Interestingly enough it would be flat black like the drawers.

Great Scott! The more I read and see its features the more I want this in my garage!

They have 2 at my HD, not sure if they are supposed to be out on the floor yet. Guess this will help me to speed up the process of selling my 41″ gladiator top/bottom tool chest combo. Milwaukee needs to slow down, my garage and alot of the tools in it are turning red & black at an alarming pace.

This looks pretty awesome, but I’d have to tear out a section of my permanently installed DIY workbench in order to make it fit in my garage. Decisions, decisions…

I’ve had my eye on either of these 2 72″ units from Sams club, and now This will make the 3rd on my ” I want now” list.

I agree, I was looking at the same one at sam’s and it doesnt come close to the Milwaukee. The model display at sams was all dented and beat up and has never even been used, it would take a lot to beat up a Milwaukee. Just bought the Milwaukee myself!

I went to HD to pick up a 46″ combo yesterday, saw the 60″ and decided it fit my needs better. However, they didn’t have one in stock and said they couldn’t order one, I’d have to wait until they had them in store. Very jealous!

They might be building up stock for Father’s Day.

Or they might be building up stock of the new models, which would mean greater supply and availability of the 46″ model around Father’s Day.

Or maybe demand will continue to be very high, and supply very low. Sorry, there’s no way to tell.

All 5 of the HD’s in my area I stopped at this weekend either had 4 of them assembled on the floor or up in the rafters (easy to spot bright red box with picture of item).

I would check another store for stock (call 1st to save time).

I’ve been searching HomeDepot.com each morning and evening. They got posted overnight, but show out of stock online, and not sold in stores. I’m sure the inventory status will be updated shorty, as I know my store has 4x sets of the 30″ers on the floor.

Two of these at the Indianapolis / Southport HD.

One thing that wasn’t fully explained in the article: the pegboard isn’t just ADJUSTABLE, it lives on a set of vertical ball bearing slides, attached in such a way that it can be retracted completely when not in use or when moving the unit around. Thumbscrews allow for temporary holding, and L-brackets bolt in (why those aren’t thumbscrews instead of regular 1/4-20 bolts I don’t know, but that’s fixed easily enough) to provide more stability and capacity when you want to use the pegboard. It’s an interesting concept that I don’t know would be fully useful for ME, but I can totally see some people having use cases for it.

Just purchased this on May 9th. This thing is a beast. 450 pounds empty. So many ways to configure everything I’m spending hours just trying to figure it out lol. Used this to replace my home built 8 foot long by 32 inch deep work bench. Going to keep the big one but put it out back to use for large projects. This fits so well in my garage for daily tinkering and what not. When I saw it I expected 1000 bucks. When I saw 589 at my local Home Depot I pounced on it. So thankful I did. Don’t think about it just get it lol you will be glad you did.

Anyone know if you can mount a vise on this ?

      May 18, 2016

You should be able to, but it’ll take more work. You’d have to use counter sunk bolts, or short lags that don’t go straight through the top board.

It’s possible, but not ideal if you’ll need maximum strength.

If you need greater strength, you could reinforce one section of the workbench with another thick board. Bolt or screw the board to the workbench, mount the vise to or through both boards.

You CAN go right through the butcher block and the layer of steel the top sits on and put the nuts under. You’d access them from the drawer and it would me nicely mounted.

For what it’s worth, I was in HD earlier this week and the sales guy said that the one on the floor was the last one in stock in pretty much the entire Minneapolis area. He also said they wouldn’t be stocking them anymore — he didn’t specify the local HD or HD in general.

I don’t think he was trying to make me think it was scarce so I’d buy it. I’ve talked to this guy before and he’s been pretty honest.

I have had no luck at all trying to find one. 4 different stores all told me that they might see something by the end of the year around Black Friday thru Christmas. Can’t special order them either.

I thought it was just a BS answer but was pretty much told the same thing by different stores.

Just picked one up a week ago and love it.. Yes very heavy!!!!! Need to try and figure out how to put all my tools in there, but that could be a good time..
It was the last one in the HD I went to (but there were many in the SoCal area). The unit had a few scuffs on the side and bumpers so I asked about a discount and the HD mgr took $50 off the $598 price…. SOLD!!!!!
Drawers are very deep and yes, it does come with liners. I may even buy an additional smaller box to mount on the top just so I may have easier access to common tools (bad back and it would limit the bending). Love this purchase.

So I go into Home Depot to get some screws….and came out with one of these puppies.

I’ve had this thing since fathers day weekend and it’s been a perfect fit for me. I had been looking for a toolbox for a long time, but wasn’t really finding one that hit all the right things. I was saving up for a Homak H2Pro found at Northern Tool. But, when I saw the features, sizes, build quality and price….I was sold. I was really impressed with the depth of drawers and build quality compared to all others I’ve looked at.

Another big benefit was the that this is a low-boy cabinet with a work top. Since I have a small 2-car garage, this gave me an additional work space while storing the tools at the same time.

I like and have used every option on this cabinet and have been very pleased thus far. I was looking for a while for a toolbox and have considered everything from Husky to Homak and even tried finding used Snap-On or Mac boxes. In the end, I am really impressed and very happy Milwaukee is making some great boxes for a great price. I’m even considering purchasing the 46″ or 30″ Milwaukee chests once I run out of room in this one.

Just picked up a display unit at HD, last in stock. Marked at $698 Canadian, negotiated $50 off plus delivery by forklift at no extra charge, preassembled. No complaints except for difficulty finding pegboard accessories that fit the 1/4″ holes and 1/16″ thickness without being a sloppy fit. Very happy with it.
