Milwaukee 48-22-8540 Mobile Workbench Home Depot Availability

A reader recently asked about how they could buy Milwaukee’s 48-22-8540 mobile workbench with stainless steel top, and I didn’t have good news for them. This tool cabinet seems to only be stocked seasonally, and if you miss it, you’re out of luck for several months.

Well, good news – it’s back in stock at Home Depot much earlier than I had anticipated. I told the reader that it might be restocked around the Fall, when there’s usually a big push in tool storage products and promos, but it seems the restock happened sooner.

I came across a new tool storage display at my local Home Depot, and it included one of these Milwaukee mobile workbenches.

If your store doesn’t have any cabinets in stock, managers will usually be happy to sell you the floor model if you have a way to get it home.

At the time of this posting, you can also order it online for home delivery. I’m seeing freight/shipping fees starting at $99.

The Milwaukee 40″ rolling tool cabinet features a clear-coated 304 stainless steel work surface, 18 gauge frame construction, 19 gauge drawer construction, and 6-gauge angle iron base.

The soft-close drawers each have 100 lb ball bearing drawer slides, except for the bottom drawer, which has double slides for a 200 lb weight capacity.

There are 6 drawers:

  • (2) 17.2″ W x 19.8″ D x 3″ H (half width)
  • (2) 35.6″ W x 19.8″ D x 3″ H
  • (1) 35.6″ W x 19.8″ D x 6″ H
  • (1) 35.6″ W x 19.8″ D x 10.4″ H

The cabinet has 2 swivel casters with pedal brake and 2 rigid, each 5″ x 2″ with polypropylene wheels.

It can support up to 1,800 lbs and is rated at having 17,642 cubic inches of storage space.

Additional features include a 6-outlet power strip with 2.1A USB charging ports (UL listed), folding side shelf, removable power tool organizer, large side handle, precut drawer liners, rubber bumpers and aluminum edge guards, and a barrel key locking mechanism.

Price: $498

With the $99 “basic” (to your porch or driveaway) shipping fee, the total price ($498 + $99) is the same as the original launch price of $600 from 3 years ago.

You might also have luck finding these at your local Home Depot, but you’ll need a truck to get it home. And, you’ll likely need a second or third set of hands, as it the mobile tool cabinet is said to have an assembled weight of 312 lbs.

At the time of this posting, Home Depot says there are 21 units available for shipping at my zip code. If this is absolutely the mobile tool storage workbench you’ve got your heart set on, you have some time to decide, but once they sell out it will likely be a while before they’re restocked again, or at least this has been the apparent trend for a while now.

Thanks, Stu! I just ordered it. Let’s hope I measured my location and it is the perfect fit I hope it is.

      Good luck!

I got excited for you when I saw this on the sales floor. I’m glad it’s restocked sooner rather than later. According to the product page it has “limited availability” and one store near me, and not at the others, and a low quantity of units available for shipping.

Maybe more will be in stock soon? It’s never easy to guess about these and other similarly sized storage products.

I just went ahead and paid the $99 to have it shipped. Way easier than trying to haul it myself or rope a friend into making a trip to HD with me. Delivered with tax, $650. That’s not too bad at all.

    Stuart.
Do these HD cabinets have actual full extension drawers or like Kobalt’s claimed “full extension” drawers an inch or two inaccessible at the back?
Something that’s always bugged me for both the crappy advertising copy subterfuge and the fact it’s actually harder to pull out some tools with this clearly non-full extension.

They *should* – Milwaukee says they have full extension drawer slides.

Partial-extension tool drawers are increasingly less common, although I’ve seen it in garage storage products where you might want to reduce tip-over risks.

Shopping online at my local Home Depot, they also offer free ‘Ship to Store’ delivery at the moment, arriving in approximately a week.

It seems that some stores offer it, others don’t. That seems like it could be a good option if you have the means to transport it.

That’s an extremely odd drawer layout.
