Milwaukee NPS16: 2016-2017 New Tool Predictions

Milwaukee M18 Cordless Power Tools

Milwaukee announced a LOT of new tools last year, during their 2015 new tool media event. Here’s a look at all of Milwaukee’s tools that we previewed or demoed during the event. Most of those tools are out now, some are due to be released soon.

Tomorrow, Milwaukee will be kicking off their 2016 New Product Symposium, NPS16. You can follow along on social media by searching for #NPS16. That’s the tag most reviewers and media outlets will be using.

I won’t be attending the event this year (regretfully, but for a good reason), but Benjamen will be there to check out the new tools and ask the tough questions.

Here are my predictions:

I think that Milwauke will be showing off a lot of their recently releases, such as their M18 Fuel nailers, tool storage solutions, cordless drain snake, and locking pliers, but I also expect for many new releases.

M18 Fuel Cordless Miter Saw – I expect for it to be a full-size brushless motor 10-inch sliding saw. I am hoping for a super-secret new innovative feature, but that would just be the cherry on top.

One-Key – I think that there will be an expansion this year, maybe at least a core tool or two, and maybe some specialty tools. Which tools would you want to be more customizable? Circular saw? Reciprocating saw? Jigsaw? Rotary hammer?

M12 One-Key? I think this would be a reach.

M12 Fuel refresh? The drills and drivers aren’t really long in the tooth yet, but perhaps Milwaukee found a way to improve them further.

New Empire AND Milwaukee Layout and Leveling products.

Milwaukee will be hitting carpentry and remodeling tool markets hard. Just consider for a moment all of the new tools they designed for electricians and plumbers in recent years, tools like tubing cutters, a cheater bar pipe wrench and other plumbing tools, wire cutters, 2 sizes of cordless knockout punch tools, plus

I know that Milwaukee has been funneling resources into Empire Tools, which they acquired in recent years, but would almost guarantee that you can expect to see some unique Milwaukee layout and measuring tool options. It would be foolish for them to not capitalize on some of Empire Tools’ assets, experience, and manufacturing capabilities.

To start, I think we’ll seem some fancy new Milwaukee levels. Why not?

Laser distance measuring tool? I’d like to see a One-Key laser distance measuring tool that communicates measurements to your smartphone.

One-Key tool control jobsite box. This is more of a wish than a prediction, and I’m not sure how the tech would work.

I hope their EDC pocket knives received some nice final touches and are ready for release.

M18 Fuel cordless table saw. We believe that Metabo is working on one, and saw evidence that Dewalt is as well. It would be great to see a Milwaukee cordless table saw. Maybe that will be the flagship next year; with this year’s star being the miter saw.

Outdoor power tools? I don’t think so.

Their 9.0Ah battery is soon due for release. Maybe there’s another tool or two optimized for the High Demand battery pack?

What are your predictions?

I’m hoping they develop an oil impulse driver. M18 is an obvious platform, but an M12 version as well would be awesome. I hate to say this but I rarely find myself using my first-gen M12 impact anymore. It makes an awful lot of noise for doing not much more than what my first-gen drill/driver can do.

Just curious, why the M18 X 2 saw? Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but doesn’t their M18 FUEL saw hold its own against Makita’s 18V X2 saw?

With Milwaukee moving towards the 9Ah battery, I don’t see them going down this route.

‘ holds it own’ is far fetch. On thinner materiaal that doesnt stress the tool. Yep. On Thicker Woods or hardwoods.. Nope 🙂

I think a fuel drywall screw gun will be out. I would like to see a Milwaukee table saw. I think more nailers will be introduced, would like to see some storage options. In hand tools, I think it will be levels, hammers and pry bars.

I’m still hoping for more M4 love, they built a fantastic platform around a single tool. A flashlight, phone charger, maybe even both in one? Also I’m hoping for an M12 crown stapler, and M18 framing nailer.

Considering that they will be looking into carpentry and remodeling I think they are well overdue for a new oscillating multi tool I also think that a natural expansion for one key would be the high torque impact wrench as there are many obvious applications for this. I am hoping to see a fuel jigsaw which I have been hoping for for about 3 years. I believe the cordless miter saw will also make an appearance tomorrow just wishful thinking but it would be great if it had a hybrid option to use AC power or battery packs.

M12 Fuel drill/driver is due for a refresh as is the M18 Fuel circular saw. The M18 vacuum is positively ancient. The thing about technology is that once you get accustomed to the refresh cycle, you’ll never want to buy something that you know is old unless you can get a screaming deal.

They need to improve current tools rather than add more. The Ryobi nail gun shouldn’t be beating the Milwaukee one…

100% agree with you on the nailers. After watching several major tool reviewers I went out an bought the ryobi nailer the next day. Used it yesterday for the first time and I’m impressed with what ryobi was able to accomplish.

Yeah I noticed it has been out since 2014 and you even covered it long ago. I would think by now Milwaukee should have something up their sleeve for the US market when it comes to cordless miter saws. Maybe like dual battery, brushless, and 10 or 12 inch blade diameter. I’m not sure what else they could do aside from increasing the sliding capacity somehow. More radial arm saw like?

The ryobi cordless 7-1/4 miter saw isnt bad when you consider its a budget cordless 7-1/4″ miter saw. Change the blade to a diablo and it does its job pretty decently.

I’d like to see an 18V series Inflator with potential for trouble light, strobe and or jump starter.

    but inflator first.

maybe a 2x (or not) 18V 3gal or so compressor.

I would like to see some 12 v series tools. LIke a FLIR, snake cam, distance tool etc. SOrt of like the Ryobi setup but using a common rechargeable battery that is actually useful. OH and Dewalt as those layout lasers that use 12V – so one of those also would be nice.

(BTW I also wish dewalt and others would make the same things I describe above)

In addition to plumbers and electricians, Milwaukee has done a pretty good job of serving mechanics.

In fact, the very reason I own so much of their stuff is because of their extensive line of socket driving/impact tools.

I honestly don’t want to see them jump into the saturated automotive hand tool market, but I would like to see their power tool line continue to expand into the vehicle service space.

    Some quick suggestions:

    -M18 Dual-Action polisher , for mobile detailers.
-DON’T make an M12 scan tool, unless you can beat Autel for the money (not likely).
-M12 fuel ratchets with higher torque than the current brushed ones.
-M18 fuel right angle impact (something that can beat the abysmal 60ft lbs of the current brushed model)
-Once again, DON’T try to make mechanics’ hand tools (ratchets, wrenches and sockets). Dewalt tried this and seems to have failed.
    -Under hood light bar
-A cordless electric version of the air hammer

You hit everything on my Milwaukee wish list. Especially the M18 right angle impact similar to the IR hammerhead with about 200 ft lbs of torque. I want to buy the m12 polisher, but would rather have the M18 in a dual action fuel version. I would like it in the 2″ and 3″ like there current version so I could use it to remove gasket materials and also use it for sanding and polishing. With a speed range selector. I would also like a more powerful M12 ratchet and maybe a similar form factor impact. Something in the 60-100ft lb range impact. There are currently some impacts in the ratchet form in a air form. Cordless, small I would buy.

Milwaukee X2 for the tools that actually benefit from a 36 platform, which are few and far between. E.g. circ saw, chainsaw, blower, concrete SDS drill, table/miter saw.

Since they’re giving up on the M28, they should do the X2/36V without having to add a charger and batteries.

I agree with the M18 DA polisher for detailing. My Porter Cable is great but the ability to not run cords would be awesome! Also making the M18 fan a little less expensive like the half priced Ridgid would be nice. An update to the vacuum is also needed, a tool I use all the time.

I don’t want to get too much criticism for the suggesting out door power tools, but I have so much invested in the M12/18 line, that having these as a tool-only add on to my collection would be fantastic. I started out with Craftsman power tools and finally got rid of those when I could afford better stuff. But I still hang on to a couple C3 batteries and charger taking up space to operate my 10″ chainsaw and string trimmer. Both are small but powerful enough for a small yard/home owner like myself. I know Milwaukee isn’t a copier, but with Dewalt and others having one or two to choose from makes them a draw if I didn’t already have so much Milwaukee stuff.

I’ve heavily invested in Milwaukee’s M18/M12 platform. I guess this is more of a personal wishlist:

It would be great to see an M18 narrow crown stapler in addition to those nailers they announced.
I would also love an M18 vacuum with the formfactor of the Makita XLC02ZW rather than the canister style that’s currently out. I know there’s an M12 version in that style.
I wish they’d release in N.A. the M18 barrel-grip jigsaw they sell in Europe.
A portable inflator like the ryobi P731 one would be killer too.

OH, and get rid of the blue vial liquid in the Empire levels. Really sucks for low light use. Upgrade the Milwaukee level vials to having a proper “cat’s eye” green fluid. This is the easiest to see in low light conditions. Glow in the dark vial surrounds as well.
