Milwaukee NPS19 New Cordless Power Tool Predictions

Milwaukee NPS19 Teaser

Milwaukee’s NPS19 new tool media event is just one day away. Tomorrow, Thursday, 6/6/19, Milwaukee will be showing off many of the new tools they have been working on, including any new cordless power tools innovations and updates, power tool accessories, tool storage products, and even hand tools.

In the past, we’ve thought long and hard about we predicted we would see, and now is that time once again.

One line keeps ringing in memory. A few years ago, between NPS15 and NPS16, a group of Milwaukee PR and product associates traveled to some parts of the country to introduce their new cordless nailers. At that time, they said that Milwaukee will be hitting carpentry and remodeling tool markets hard. And they have, with new brushless jig saws, a backpack vacuum, cordless miter saws, a cordless table saw, and a number of other handy tools.

But there are still holes in Milwaukee’s M18 cordless power tool lineup.

What about an M18 cordless air compressor?

Are the Gen-2 cordless nailers ready yet? Will Milwaukee be coming out with a larger nailer, such as a framer? Or going smaller, such as with a 23 gauge pin nailer?

We’ve started to see new Imperial Blades oscillating multi-tool accessories. Now’s a good time for an M18 Fuel oscillating multi-tool, maybe even an M12 Fuel model, of course supported by new Milwaukee oscillating multi-tool blades and accessories. Or, maybe they’ll be supported by Imperial Blade accessories. Either way, I expect to see both.

What about a new M18 Fuel large-size miter saw? They have a 10″ and a 7-1/4″. That larger saw might be due for an update, or maybe we’ll see a new 12″ size?

I don’t quite think we’ll see a 10″ table saw, however. Unless… Milwaukee announces a new battery system update where you can harness the capabilities of 2 or more Li-ion battery packs.

Milwaukee very much believes in their “everything fits” philosophy. Their High Output battery packs can deliver a great amount of energy to very demanding and power-hungry cordless power tools. But how do you get them to deliver even more? You pair them up.

It’s possible that Milwaukee will finally announce a battery-multiplier system and sub-category of tools. The 8-1/4″ table saw runs effortlessly on a High Output battery. But how would a 10″ table saw perform? Or a 12″ miter saw?

I’m not convinced about a multi-battery sub-system within the Milwaukee M18 cordless power tool lineup. Even if it’s something they do come out with, it makes sense that the High Output batteries came first. The potential behind multi-battery tools would allow for the highest tier of performance, but also runtime.

Single-battery vacuums work alright. But what if you want a fully-featured dust collector? Maybe even one that could power cordless tools that are attached for automatic activation?

For the past few years, we have seen progressions in Milwaukee M18 cordless power tool battery technology. What are we in for this year?

Although many users have grown their cordless power tool collections, what about that air compressor they like to use? The dust vac? Air cleaner? Hammer drill? Halogen lighting? Maybe this is the year we see a Milwaukee M18 battery-equipped portable power source. Ooh, and in a Packout rolling tool box?

There’s space for a new line of Milwaukee cordless sanders. Larger battery packs aren’t quite well-matched to smaller sanders, but the same can’t be said about wall and ceiling prep tools.

Readers have been asking for an M12 Fuel Surge impulse driver. Honestly, I’m 50:50 on this. I’m not convinced that it’s something Milwaukee will seek to bring to market.

We could potentially see a Milwaukee cordless metal-cutting chop saw or multi-material saw, perhaps similar to Makita’s 18V X2 abrasive saw, or at least I don’t see why not.

Maybe a cordless router? A few years ago, Milwaukee said that they would enter and grow product categories that made sense for them, and where they could bring improvement. I don’t remember the context, but it seemed their corded routers fit the “we’re not interested in me-too” category. However, times have changed, and users want a cordless router. A cordless router table with built-in motor would be nice, but I don’t think that’s very likely.

A cordless track saw would be nice, but how would they take on market giants, such as Festool?

What do you predict we’ll see?

We’ll likely be providing some immediate coverage through Instagram and our other social channels. Following the tag #NPS19 will show you EVERYONE’s coverage, which might be a good idea. We’ll be focused on information-gathering and hands-on time, but will try to share teasers of the most impactful new tool releases.

My own wish list would be the following in this order. A M18 track saw, a power station, and a cordless trim router

A track saw and router top my brothers and my list.

If they do release a track saw I hope that they are smart enough to have an ingenious way to adapt it to other manufacturers tracks. Being the last of the big 4 cordless brands in north america without one in their lineup it would probably boost sales if they had compatibility with existing tracks that one might have purchased with a corded saw.

I want to see a M18 left blade circular sidewinder in 7-1/4″ and a track saw. That’s honestly got me staying on the fence between dewalt and milwaukee. I’m waiting to jump into one platform or the other based on this.

For the automotive side – M12 or M18 heat induction tool.

I think it’s time for woodworking tools.

Packout needs something integrated into it… vac, radio, power station, drawers.

Since they just put out new batteries I’m guessing another year or more before they give us multi battery tools. Either that or wireless charging first so we keep buying more batteries than tools.

I don’t think battery powered heat induction tools are ever going to be technically feasible. They just require way too much current to generate the necessary wattage, given the voltage of the batteries.

I know there is a 12V mini-ductor made to clamp onto a car battery. I’m not sure how well it works, but with what theses tool manufacturers keep doing with their batteries I’m sure we aren’t that far from this being possible. They already removed the need for pneumatic tools, and now they are taking on hydraulic tools. Granted it takes a lot of electricity to make heat, but I have a feeling we’ll be moving past heated clothing in the near future. Here’s to hoping anyway.

Seems possible, though likely to be under-powered. Keep in mind in general terms a car battery is in the 45ah range @12v. Even a 12AH 18v pack would be left in the dust. It would have less than half the watt-hours on tap than the alternative.

It would likely end up like their 18v heat gun: pretty neat, useful for a couple of small scale tasks, but underpowered and it would chew through batteries like crazy.

lol more development of the red lithium line – maybe things like distance measures and laser levels. Sort of expect to see that transition.

a updated mid torque torque wrench maybe. More one key product integration.

I do sort of hope they make a power station – I mean I know why dewalt did it – it makes sense when you start off with a 60V (54V) battery base voltage – to make up 110V AC line power. So milwaukee could do a relatively easy version of that too it just has to have more transformer coil to make up the volts. minor really.

I half expect to see more OPE – and a later related death of the Echo 58V line

And I do expect them to make a 10inch table saw and beat dewalt to market with one. Why – just because.

Dewalt’s power station is 18v x4. It can’t be in Flexvolt mode otherwise it can’t function as a charger (balance) or work with 20v Max batteries.

        Jun 5, 2019

To supply power I believe it either has to have 1 flexvolt battery and 3 20V batteries, or it has to have 2 or more flexvolt batteries. something like that but it will not supply power without one flexvolt battery attached. Unless they changed it.

If using as 1 flexvolt and 3 20V – it stops when the flexvolt battery is drained – regardless of the state of the 3 other 20V batteries.

If using 2 flexvolts and 2 20’s – again it stops as soon as either flexvolt battery is drained. For best results I believe it wants 4 flexvolt batteries of same capacity base.

To charge batteries I believe the circuits don’t care which battery type is plugged in. It monitors them individually.

I have 18v Makita’s and their RO is just fine but my batteries are on their last leg and I’ve been dragging my feet on new ones. A 1/2″ cordless router may be enough to make me switch to Milwaukee M18 when time comes.

I’m really hoping for a 1/2” drive socket set. Or maybe even a super socket set with 3 drive sizes, 3 ratchets one of each drive size, shallow and deep sockets in SAE and metric of each drive size, at least 1 x 6” extension for each drive size, (6” and 3” for each would be nice), universal joints for each drive size, and a nice blow molded case with removeable tray.

I highly doubt a super socket set will come out, but a 1/2 drive set is more likely.

I would also like to see a m12 fuel rotary tool, with a full line of Milwaukee accessories, to compete with dremel and their crazy prices for attachments and accessories.

Hopefully we see the m12 chainsaw doresoom found in the Milwaukee patents ?

You could epoxy the 3D printed parts and just have them on top of a stack.
I don’t know how well the lid would stand up, but I think it could work.

I’ll probably start this tonight and see what I come up with (It’s supposed to have thunderstorms for the next 5 days 🙂 ).

    I don’t know what Milwaukee will be introducing at this years NPS19 but my wish list is as follows;
    M18 Framing nailer
    Packout Charging station
    Packout 2 drawer unit
    M18 router
    Nice to have;
    Packout rolling base shop vac
    Packout Radio
Packout customizable inserts for arranging multiple bare tools in the large and rolling boxes
Still waiting for the much delayed:
    Packout wall mount
    Packout rolling base
In the OPE world I wish they would make the following:
a lawn mower (M18 platform but probably tandem batteries)
I know they’re busy and I recognize each piece needs to meet some business case but man am I impatient!

I pretty much wish every year and it never comes true, but a Fuel OMT with a true quick change mechanism that doesn’t require me to unscrew anything. It’s the tool I use more than any other, and I’m getting pretty fed up with their terrible OMT that has endured for years and years. 3 generations of other Fuel tools later, and they still have this lame POS.

It only took 5+ years for the Fuel jigsaw. I am pretty sure we will get the M18 Fuel OMT this year, slight chance M12 Fuel also, but the M12 might be a surprise release later in the year because they never show everything at NPS

You’ll gey your Fuel oscillating multitool. I know this because I just ordered the old one (the 2626). I hedged my bet by buying it used: $90, including an XC5.0 battery and an M18/M12 (rapid?) charger.

Right there with you, but I gave up waiting and ordered the Fein 18v last month (which probably increases your odds dramatically)! It sure would have been nice if I could just stick with M18 though.

*Fuel 18″ fan (hopefully Packout compatible & OneKey)
    *Gen2 M18 surge
    *USB battery walkie talkies
    *Cultivator attachment
    *1/2 gal sprayer

    Dreams:
    * Update the search light to at least be on par with Ryobi (2.5x brighter for almost half the price)
*USB rapid charging, hopefully USB-C change-over for m12 charger (not worth a hoot really with USB 2 micro).
*Packout Chainsaw case, Hedge trimmer PO body update, M12/M18 speaker PO update
*Pole pruner attachment, or ideally M12 based and configurable in different lengths
    *Robot lawnmower like Husqvarna
*jawhorse like PO mount, just thought of that. Or other setups, like a router station, if they had a router
*Paint sprayer, or get another company to use your battery. On that, I’d like to just see them partnering with other companies to use their battery form factors.

I was about to ask. YOu know there is a company that makes a 2 and 4 or 5 gallon sprayer out there that uses the makita 18V battery (it’s either theirs or hitachi – not red or blue or yellow)

I saw it because I was looking for a new sprayer and thought – that’s a hell of an idea – if it was just more universal. I mean I’m invested in dewalt batteries so I would want that – but same goes for other versions too. why not make it to use either company’s battery system.

I was never quite sure what the pros and cons were for a battery powered sprayer versus one that relies on a hand pump to pressurize a tank. Certainly a battery powered fogger (I believe Ryobi sells one) might have an advantage over a corded one. Meanwhile – back at the ranch so to speak – my Solo backpack sprayer and various (for different chemicals) hand-pump sprayers seem to work fine with a little TLC. I do see that Solo is selling some 12V (gel battery) backpack sprayers and Chapin offers a 24V model.

For spot treating weeds, you don’t need it. But I do like using the Ryobi cordless sprayer for treating my perimeter with pesticides. 3 gallons and I’m done in 30 minutes including mixing 2 batches and cleaning the sprayer when I’m done. No pausing to pressurize the tank.

            Jun 6, 2019

it’s more of a nice to have really. I use a 2 gallon pumper now – and it’ holds enough to go around my house well for insecticide – and doesn’t quite hold enough to weed spot spray my yard. Either way with a battery pump motor it would have a consistent spray rate and run a bit faster.

maybe less useful on the spot spray side – very useful on the coating the house side. I would however only want it in 4-5 gallon backpack form.

Wishlist is framing nailer similar to the DeWalt or Hitachi.
The 120v power station similar to DeWalt, but have it be pack out compatible. A pure sine wave inverter is a must. Ideally a secondary DC input so we can use it with solar (so you can use a MPPT charge controller with solar to charge the batteries during extended blackouts).
A track saw would be nice.
A wire stapler similar to the one DeWalt just released would be nice too

My rep says 2 framing nailers, 18ga rework, M18 router, possibly m12 router, track saw, worm drive.
    I’d love to see:
    m12 23ga and 18ga
Packout rolling chest with drawers so I don’t have to take apart my stack every time
Heated vest for women that puts the battery somewhere other than in my wife’s kidney (seriously they got it perfect in the men’s vest and blew it so bad on the women’s)

At this point almost anything that you can do with a compact M18 should be possible in m12 fuel and i want to see some of it happen. Mostly I want the tiny trim nailers.
    And everything 75% off

If I were a betting man, I’d say the following releases are a sure-bet.

    – 15ah battery (M18)
    – Update to 21700 cell batteries (on the M12 XC packs)
    – Multi-Port simultaneous fast charger
    – A whole lot of new pack-out case options (including a Pack-Out radio)
    – New lighting options

    – Much less likely to happen, but options I’d love to see would be:

    – 7-1/4″ Blade left circular saw
    – Track saw
    – 12″ Masonry Saw (most likely would need to be a dual-battery design)

X2 battery setup (any company’s battery) – trolling motor would run well and be easy to use.

There’s a guy on instructables or some page like it – that 3d printed a propeller to run on a drill. using a cordless drill he then goes out on a canoe.

    But that’s about it… I was expecting more…
do we really need a radio for $300???? I am sure 23g nailer would be more useful.

Overall Milwaukee does amazing job, it’s not easy to keep up that kind of speed and release so many new tools every year, therefore its even more important to set up correct priorities.

Rechargeable ratchet straps that you plug into cigarette lighter. Better gps locator ticks. Maybe smaller ones and w/ greater distance than 100′. I would sport a Milwaukee wallet if they had one. Milwaukee carpenters pants, milwaukee boots, milwaukee sunglasses, a vacuum hood for a mitre saw indoors. Bluetooth cordless 12v rechargeable magnetic trailer/tow lights. With a bluetooth module that plugs into your 4,5,6,7 pin plug from your vehicle. A cordless milwaukee bench vise. Milwaukee knee pads. I want the Milwaukee NM wire strippers back too. The 6 in 1 electricians tool for stripping romex outer sheeting off. Yr hey used to sell nbn it, but then they stopped.
