Milwaukee has launched a 30pc Packout-compatible wrench set, 48-22-9485, that allows you to easily bring their full combination wrench sets with you.
The 30pc set comes with a 15pc SAE wrench set, 15pc metric wrench set, slotted storage trays, and a full-size Packout organizer.
Everything fits neatly into the Packout organizer for convenient portability.

The wrench storage is split into 4 trays – 2 for SAE and 2 for metric, with the largest wrench sizes being placed at the bottom. There is room in the bottom trays for parts or accessory storage.
Milwaukee is also offering SAE and metric 15pc wrench sets separately. Shown here is the SAE wrench set, 48-22-9484.

Users can also buy the storage tray pack separately, in case they already have a Packout organizer.

There’s the potential for Milwaukee to further expand on this type of setup. Maybe users can have a Packout organizer with wrenches one one side, and a socket set on the other.

Had seen some on the 3D printed scene, maybe you did a write up on it? Seems like a good option that won’t melt from the clear lid.
Ordered the trays, hoping I can make it work in a regular small toolbox

You still don’t want to leave any clear-lid organizers in the sun, whether they have molded or 3D printed plastic inserts. It can get VERY hot in there.

People are spraying the inside of the clear lid with Berliner so that doesn’t happen.

I’m inclined to assume that these will only fit the non-ratcheting wrenches, but am hoping to be surprised.

I didn’t even notice these weren’t ratcheting. I have the ratcheting so I’ll let you know when the trays get here if they fit. Can’t imagine they wouldn’t they’re the same size roughly.

I purchased the Milwaukee ratcheting wrenches a while ago. The stray of wrenches has two zip tie like straps( holding wrenches in tray.). I clipped the very end of straps off( just the wider ear) on the side of the largest wrenches. That way I can just easily slide wrench retaining strap back in for wrench transport. I only use the one strap closest to the ratcheting heads. This is with the original rack that comes with the wrench sets. It holds wrenches securely when carrying them around( or storing on a wall). I love the wrenches by the way!

If they are mounted on a wall and you slide the zap strap to get your wrench in the middle out, don’t some of the wrenches fall out? We need a solution to this issue.

I like the Packout system, and I like Milwaukee wrenches,, so this would seem to be a natural fit for me, but the space usage is *so* inefficient with these wrench sets compared to a tool-roll, that this is a hard sell for me. I have the very flat Packout MW wrench set, but also found it difficult to use when working on my vehicles compared to the suitcase sized blow molded tool cases which have wrenches on one half and sockets on the other which can be laid flat for full access (I use the set from Sam’s Club). With the Packouts, the case *lid* is always getting in the way—made it very annoying to use even if the wrenches themselves are very nice.

I think these are great but I’m old fashioned and love my canvas roll ups I wish Milwaukee would make them for purchase.

This looks very VERY bulky. I have the Ernst wrench tower and it holds 30 wrenches perfectly. Nice handle and stands up. Put it on the pavement next to your car and u have all the wrenches u need. One handed removal and replacement. The holders are a type of Ridgid rubber so it’s flexible to put in AND also rigid enough to bounce around in the back of the car. I usually put it flat down so SAE is down and metric is up if working on my Mazda and they don’t fall off. And it’s not too difficult to take out.

There are a lot of usage environments where you need enclosed storage, or have multiple things to carry, hence the Packout compatibility part.
These aren’t going to be suitable for everyone, but will be more suitable for portable needs than the shallow drawer insert that I’ve been particularly fond of.
I wasn’t previously aware of the Ernst wrench tower – looks decent for benchtop storage and short distance grab-and-go.

Thanks for sharing that…hadn’t heard of their tower but I’m glad to see that they’re still kicking around and still manufacturing in the US after all these years. I dealt with them off and on throughout the 90s and they were always a pleasure. We jumped on the Hansen Global train when they brought out their spikey socket bench trays but their wrench holders were prone to losing the tools or snapping, so we went back to Ernst wrench holders (just the basic ones with wall mount and carry holes). Ernst had to toy with their plastic a couple of times to get it just right…good stuff. Can’t remember now, don’t think it was Truecraft, but one of our socket lines actually sold wrench sets using the Ernst holders included (everything else was still using wire bail loops or disposable packaging). I think the packout case here has a mobility advantage in that it has some storage space, despite the bulk, and unless the only thing you need to tote is wrenches. I’m a bigger fan of fabric rolls.
