Milwaukee Packout Mechanics Tools Socket Set 48-22-9486

This Milwaukee combination mechanics tool set with Packout-compatible case and drawer-friendly removable trays is finally on sale again!

Readers asked me to keep an eye out for discounts on this combination SAE and metric socket set, model 48-22-9486. It’s been more than 3 years, but it’s finally on sale again, as part of a Home Depot tool deals of the day event for 2/12/24.

This is a 106pc Mechanics socket set, with SAE and Metric sockets in 1/4″ and 3/8″ sizes.

What I especially like about Milwaukee’s socket sets is that you can get them in separate case options. Here, you can keep the removable trays in the included shallow-depth Packout case, or take them out for use in drawers.

Sale Price: $207 (ends at 3am EST 2/13/24 unless supplies sell out sooner)

For comparison, the 3/8″ sets – 28pc SAE and 32pc metric in compact Packout cases – are a $199 bundled “special buy” right now. So for just 8 more you lose the duplicate 3/8″ ratchet but gain a 1/4″ ratchet, drive accessories, and 1/4″ drive SAE and metric sockets.

This is why the 1/4″ and 3/8″ set is such a good deal right now – it gives you the equivalent of 4 compact tool sets (minus duplicate ratchets and accessories) in a single Packout tool case.

I went a different option for my sets – I bought the non-Packout sets. The tools have held up well and I’ve got zero regrets. If you buy the same, the Packout-compatible trays are always available separately.

These sets also come with removable trays – I have them in my tool box and the cases are hanging out in a storage box in case I ever need to make the sets portable again.

For portability, I feel the Packout set discussed above is the better option, and it’s on sale for less right now as well. This non-Packout bundle set is usually priced lower, especially during holiday promotions.

Price: $219

If you’re looking for the matching 1/2″ drive set, the 47pc SAE and metric set is priced at $199 right now.

The craziest deal today has to be the M18 Track Saw + M18 Jigsaw bare tool combo for $379…since the plunge cut saw bare tool is $399 by itself

Looks like this was a bit too good of a deal!
I get no pricing on the page and an error when I try to add it to the cart.

That IS a crazy deal. I’m tempted and I don’t even need a track saw. I have the jigsaw so I could sell it and have the track saw at even lower cost, but again…I don’t need one.

It’s $439 today. Not as good, but still a tempting deal.

Do I need to replace my corded tools? No. Do I want to replace my corded tools…

I think the 1/4″ and 3/8″ set would be deal to keep under a seat or truck storage. (Hey pickup truck makers, work with Milwaukee to have packout in the side of the bed or under the rear seats… right?

I love the square sided sockets as they don’t roll away into a hidden recess to be lost. My older style sockets are seldom used now.

I also bought the non-packout style and I’m quite happy with them. I got the 56 piece set on a sale for $99.

I agree. And the markings are nice and clear.

Funny how the markings on tools become more important the older I get!

Very happy with this set. Take out the molded plastic bit that they put in the middle for the sockets and you can fit a lot of your 1/4 and 3/8 accessories.

Are these ratchets any good?I look at reviews on Milwaukee’s own website and people write in with photos of the anvils shearing right off.Sure they say Milwaukee hooks them up with a new one but the prices for these sets seem to be on the high side to me for what you are getting.

I haven’t had issues yet, and this is the first I’ve heard of anyone shearing the anvils off. Maybe they used cheater bars?

I’ve used them a bunch and they don’t seem any better than Husky, Gearwrench et al despite the price. Milwaukee overprices tools because they can get away with it.

I’ve been waiting a year or so for these to come back down in price. I already have separate 3/8” sets but really wanted a complete set. Thanks for the heads up!
