I think I’ll go for the NWS 1664-49-250 pliers (adjustable spanner really) at KC. A tool I don’t really really need but want around when working on the car.
Anyone have a recommendation for a 1/4″ torque wrench ratchet of high accuracy? I need one for the German automobile and looking at those tools at KC. A less expensive sku somewhere would be welcome.

I have had good experiences with Wera torque wrenches, but not their hex bit sockets.
If USA pricing is too high, Amazon UK or DE might be a better option, even with shipping.

Thanks, fred., so glad you mentioned the Wera and this digital. I did read the reviews and it motivates me to stay digital-free at the moment. That Wera is approx $215 at .DE shipped, plus Amazon $dollar exchange rate fee, so $220ish.
I saw some broken pot-metal looking Wera bits that also come in their ratchet set I was about to buy (torx and hex bits). Found after Stuart’s comment, if in fact he meant iffy bits. I found a review of Wera bits and their iffy bit quality and its thrown me off their entire line. I have no love affair with the brand (yet) so no big. If I’m paying mid-top dolllar for German quality they better not have a single crappy bit…..or else! I want to buy once. If a brand is “value engineering” then the baby goes out with the bathwater – at least until I know better to cherry pick a line.
I called KC and they were reluctant to recommend a brand one way or the other. Didn’t seem to want to have an opinion other than “anything on their site”.
Think I’ll grab a few sku’s from .DE and see how it goes.

I had a Wera hex bit socket shatter on maybe the 3rd-ever bolt I used it on. They replaced it, but I’ll never fully trust their hex bits again.
I like Proto, but their fancy anti-slip tips didn’t work as well for new fasteners – they’re better for grabbing onto worn fasteners.
I’m still shopping for new straight hex bits. I have Craftsman sockets from a while back that are great, but am looking for longer ones similar to the Wera that failed.
At the time, I asked around and a lot of other people had similar problems with Wera hex bits breaking.

Its either word of mouth or advertising – but Wera tools seem to get promoted quite a lot here in the USA. I have a number of their items but never had the need to buy any of their sockets. Their ratchets seem to get decent revies – but look a bit “plasticky” to me. I was looking for a ratcheting torque wrench in right range for Bike repair – so that’s why I ended up with the Wera. I don’t use it very often – but it seems work well with torque results comparable to a Sturtevant beam wrench that I trust and used for comparison.
To show the power of advertising – I asked some of “the usual suspects” that I have for gift-giving if they would like me to hunt down anything on a trip (pre-pandemic) to Germany. One young man wanted a specific set of Wera 3/8 inch drive tools. I thought to suggest Stahlwille, Hazet or Gedore – but was sent on a mission for Wera. With a bit of hunting, I found the set in a supplier near Essen. I got the impression that Wera might be more popular here than in Germany – but that may be an artifact of my lack of facility with the German language.

When I looked for the spanner, it was replaced with a 1/4 drive torque wrench. Believe me, that is one tool you do not want to cheapen out wjen buying. You definitely need a quality torque wrench.

Not the season for sales? But IMO – even when it was “sales season” these last few years – the offerings have been a little on the paltry side.
Today’s emails had Woodcraft offering 15% off on Rikon and ToolOrbit/Toolmarts offering 10% off on Freud which I suppose is better than Nail Gun Depot’s 5% off “deal”.
