I discussed the value of this deal in detail last year, when the deal appeared in the second week of November. In that post, I priced out each of the tools, which total $31 if priced separately. Looking at current pricing, the 3-tool total currently comes out to $29.
So, with this bundle, you’re getting $29 worth of tools for $15. $14.88 to be precise.
I’d love to understand how this bundle, and others like it, can be priced so low. I’m guessing it comes down to volume and marketing. Well, whatever the reason, it’s a fantastic deal. The value makes the deal very hard to resist.
My 4 nearest Home Depot stores are reporting an average of 58 Milwaukee Fastback and blade pack bundles in stock, but when I checked the closest store this morning, nothing was out yet. This is one of those times when it’s probably best to order online, or sit tight and wait for the holiday deals to hit the sales floor.

The Fastback regularly sells for $10, the compact for $9, and the blades for as low as $10.
The main Fastback is not the blade storage version that normally sells for $15, or at least I don’t think it is.

Anyone else have problems with the blades coming out while cutting?
I bought this set last year after reading about it here. The mini works great. However the regular Fastback doesn’t securely lock the blade in place. After having the blade pop out a few times while cutting with it, I stopped using it.

I’ve been using one as my EDC for about five years now, and never had that issue. I’d talk to Milwaukee, and they’ll probably replace it for you.

After looking into it some more, I’m not sure if I should blame the knife or the blades for my problem. I’ve been using Stanley 11-921A blades. Comparing those to the Milwaukee blades the notches don’t come down quite as far. So I took the cover off my Fastback and with the Stanley blade in place, the slightly shallower notches prevented the bottom of the locking tabs from engaging fully. This partial lock is enough for the blade to feel secured if pulled on with your fingers, but allows the blade to come out when enough pressure is applied a the right angle.
This problem doesn’t occur with the Milwaukee supplied blades in the Fastback knife. Or with the Stanley blades in any of the other 5 different types of utility knifes that I have here.
Looking at reviews the majority of them are very positive. However there are a few people who report the same issue as me. All of them were using blades manufactured by somebody other than Milwaukee.

Adam is right talk to Milwaukee they probably would replace it, but if you want you can probably fix it yourself it’s usually the small metal tab that gets a little bent out.

I’ve had that problem a bit. I think it is because the trigger for the blade release is very sensitive. If you are drawing it down drywall or cardboard (ie putting traction on the blade) and you bump the release, it’ll pop out.
With the location of the release, it happens most when choking up on it or using it left handed.
Other than that it is my favorite.

The image isn’t to perfect scale.
The compact is smaller than shown in the image, and also lacks the cutting hook/recess which is helpful for cutting small wires or cord.
I’ll see if I can photograph the difference for you.

When you posted about these last Fall, I placed an order online and picked them up in-store. I have absolutely no need for a second set but I’m thinking about buying them again now just to have spares.

There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you do buy spares, open and check them before putting them away. That’s general advise for any holiday season deals like this.

I just purchased this Milwaukee bundle of the two utility knives and the 50pc blade pack. Everything was as expected with the exception of the pack of blades. The pack of blades pictured above with the knives is the same image on the HD site, but not exactly what I got in my local HD. The blades and the dispenser I got do not have any Milwaukee markings or logos and no mention of an Iron-Carbide Edge. There is also no Milwaukee part number on the dispenser. There is a label on the dispenser that says, USO General 10-15-1903D General Purpose Utility Blades. The only hint of Milwaukee is the red color of the plastic dispenser. I think I’ve been had. :-/
