Milwaukee’s Packout Dust Separator has a Face

Milwaukee Compact Dust Separator with Caster Kit

Milwaukee has a new Packout-compatible dust separator on the way, and it’s exactly what it sounds like.

The Milwaukee dust separator comes with an adapter that can fit common vacuum and shop vac hose sizes – 1-1/4″, 1-7/8″, and 2-1/2″.

You would use something like this to reduce filter clogging, which can help maintain maximum vacuum suction power for longer.

It has a 2.5 gallon capacity and comes with a 1-7/8″ x 6′ expandable hose.

In addition to Packout compatibility, Milwaukee designed the separator with mounting clips that can attach to select models of their wet/dry vacuums (0910, 0920, 0930).

Price: $100, $30 for the optional casters

There’s also an optional caster kit, which brings us to what I brought up in the title. With the caster kit, and how the vacuum is greyed out, doesn’t that look like a face?!

I should mention that the separator has on-board storage for its hose and multi-fit adapter, or maybe explain more about how dust separators work (in general they cause sawdust and larger debris to lose speed and exit the suction airflow before reaching the filter or smaller primary containment).

But that face is distracting me.

And now I see a face in the Packout rolling tool box, shown above. It almost looks kind of grumpy, which would be understandable as there’s a vacuum and dust separator on its head.

I looked up the word for this – Pareidolia.

You don’t see the face?

    Stuart, you need help…
It’s not round. So is it still a cyclone separator?

It’s not advertised as a cyclone. Not all separators are round or cyclonic.

Price is right, and I like the form factor. I might adapt this to my Festool CT26.

Just be sure to read up on static sensitivities; Festool dust collectors have been known to be temperamental with 3rd party separators and static damage.

That’s a very relevant concern, thanks!

Previously, I observed an intense amount of static build up when I ran the CT26 with a stock Ridgid hose of matching diameter. – I shut that down after 2 cuts.

You can replace hose with Anti-static wet/dry hose. They are out there, such as this one. https://centecsystems.com/antistatic-wet-dry-tapered-vacuum-hose-for-shop-vacs-with-universal-power-tool-quick-click-adapter-set/

      Thanks Stuart.

New word for me too. When I Googled it – I also learned about the broader term:
      “Apophenia
A general term for interpreting patterns or meaning in random or meaningless data, such as visual, auditory, or data sets. Apophenia can be a common effect of brain function, but it can also be a symptom of psychiatric dysfunction, such as schizophrenia. ”

I was once told that my older Fein (Turbo II) dust extractor looked like a Dalek. Not having been an aficionado of Dr. Who, I had to look that up too.

I sort of wish there was a way for the wheels to stay with it. So one could lock it into a packout stack for arrival/departure from the job site, but easily deploy the wheels without ‘rebuilding’ it on every job site.
