Hitachi has just announced their new 18V 4.0Ah lithium-ion batteries to the UK market. As you might recall, Dewalt also released 4.0Ah batteries this month, and although we did not report on it, Metabo did the same a few months back.
There is a lot of marketing surrounding these new batteries, with Hitachi suggesting that they set the stage for a new level of performance.

Obviously 4.0Ah battery packs offer greater runtime compared to 3.0Ah battery packs, but additional enhancements may have been built into them. It is also reasonable to assume that the new batteries were optimized to work with Hitachi’s new brushless drills and drivers, and perhaps pending developments as well.
4.0Ah batteries seem to be trendy now. Metabo, then Dewalt, and now Hitachi. Who’s next?
Please note that, as with the Dewalt new batteries, Hitachi’s batteries are being launched in the UK. We have no news as to if/when they will be available in the USA.

poor Metabo……still don’t know where they stand in the market…are they closer to Hilti or closer to a German version of Ryobi?

Any news as to when these will be in the USA? I think I could purchase them on Amazon UK, but I’d have no support here in the US should they go bad.
I’m also trying to hunt down the 18 volt stapler model N 18DSL. Any tips on how to acquire this would be appreciated.
