Nicholson 5 Piece General Purpose Hand File Set for Less than $8

Nicholson General Purpose Hand File Kit

I’m not sure why, but this Nicholson 5pc general purpose hand file set (model # 22040HN) has been priced obscenely low on Amazon. While priced at $57 and change via MSC Direct, on the right hand side under “more buying choices” it is clearly marked as $7.36 via Amazon.

The set is currently sold out, no doubt because of its low sale price, with an estimated shipping wait time of 1-2 months for new orders. I placed an order at the end of March, and if the order ships, I don’t expect to see the set until sometime in May.

[EDIT: The price shot back up to $55.]

I figure that there are 3 possible outcomes, in order of likelihood: Amazon fulfills the orders properly with 5pc file sets; Amazon cannot fulfill the orders and cancels them; or Amazon mistakenly fulfills the orders with a single file despite the 5pc set model number, photo, and product description, leading to product returns and no-penalty refunds. If the worst-case scenario occurs, a polite complaint may even result in a $5 apology credit.

Also worth mentioning is that the item is eligible for free super saver shipping on orders above $25, and that Amazon won’t charge credit cards until an order is ready to ship out.

There were a couple of sets that were priced super low. I just received notification that one of my sets, for $9, has shipped.

The other discounted sets shot back up in price rather quickly. I’m extremely surprised that it took so long for this set to go back to a normal-looking price – more than a week!

It looks like the price on this set is now $55.
