the Porter Cable 4212 Dovetail jig was $127 at Amazon in July and I bought one.
It is a good choice compared with other dovetail jigs.

I must have missed the $127 price, was it very short-lived? I have never heard of a better dovetail jig for less than $200. Right now I don’t have the space for a 12-inch jig, but it’s still at the top of my “must haves” wishlist.

the $127 price was in this June and July, and lasted several days.

Many years ago the PC Omnijig was about the only choice you had for a home-shop or semi-production setup. I see that there are lots more choices now – with the Leigh Jig getting lots of kudos – but that seems to come at a price. In a production shop – machines from the likes of Dodd or Laguna do the heavy lifting – but this $150 PC unit may be great for the one-off user. I’d be interested in hearing impressions from some who have actually used one

I have this Porter Cable 4212 Dovetail jig and it works great. Before buying PC jig, I tried other two brands jigs and they were very painful to use. Even with a lot of tries, I still could not get a satisfied dovetail. The Porter Cable 4212 Dovetail jig works much better. But there is also a learn curve. I failed my first two cuts and then it worked great. I found some good reviews of Leigh dovetail but it is way too expensive, maybe around $400~$500 range. With the price of $127 I bought the PC 4212, I am happy with that.

I purchased this jig five years ago and finally had a project that required dovetailed drawers. It was easy to set up and get the joints to fit properly. I did have problems getting the top and bottoms of the boards to line up. They seemed to always be off 1/32+. After many drawers I think I may have found the problem. The slot in the templet mount that slides over the bolt that secures the template to the jig has some slop in it so if you are not careful you will secure it a little to the left or right of center. The dovetails will be tight, but the board top and bottom will not be flush.
