Porter Cable 20V Bluetooth Speaker PCC772B

Porter Cable is coming out with a new super-compact 20V Max cordless Bluetooth speaker, model PCC772B. They recently came out with a Bluetooth radio as well, which offers more features and built-in tuners.

The Porter CablePCC772B Bluetooth speaker is built around a 4″ speaker, making it super-compact and easy to move around. It even comes with a built-in hand strap for quick pickup.

Porter Cable says the new speaker is also durable, which should make it well suited for jobsites and recreational environments.

Bluetooth connectivity allows for wireless streaming from your smartphone or any other “smart” Bluetooth-equipped device, such as tablets, and there is also an auxiliary input jack for use with mp3 and other music players.

The aux cable is built-in, which is good and bad, but mainly good. The good is that you’ll never lose it, the bad is that you’ll need to buy an extension cable if you want longer reach. Most jobsite radios and speakers that include aux cables usually come with really short ones anyways.

In the image of the rear of the speaker, it’s clear that the built-in aux cable routes down the side of the speaker for storage.

You can enjoy full cordless operation by pairing the speaker with a Porter Cable 20V Max Li-ion battery pack, and it also comes with an AC adapter.

There are just 4 control buttons at the top of the speaker – a power button, a Bluetooth connection button, and 2 volume buttons (up and down).

Price: $60
ETA: July 2015

The Bluetooth speaker isn’t available just yet, but it is already listed at Lowes. We’re told that it will hit shelves early this summer. Can’t wait? Porter Cable’s Bluetooth Radio is available now for $100 (via Amazon). It’s a good model that delivers decent sound, especially for such a small radio. And if you want to stay in the Stanley Black & Decker family, the Dewalt DCR006 is available for $79 (via Amazon).

First Thoughts

Porte Cable did a great job with their recent Bluetooth radio, and the new Bluetooth speaker looks like it could also be a big hit.

One thing I am happy to see is that the speaker has large control buttons that should be easily accessible with gloves on. They’re grouped together, but are large enough that hitting the right button shouldn’t be an issue.

I find myself liking the overall design and color scheme. On one hand, it looks durable but not burly, at least not in the same sense as say Dewalt’s Bluetooth speaker. But on the other hand, it doesn’t look like it would be out of place in any environment. It doesn’t look flashy or gaudy, as many of the latest consumer models do. Porter Cable seems to have designed the speaker such that it would be just as fitting at jobsites, workshops, garages, and Uncle Joe’s barbecue.

Once the speaker hits the market, we’ll let you know how it sounds.

No the Dewalt 20v batteries only worth on their 20v tools. They are physically incompatible.

Why is there not a USB port on here, for charging phones?
It seems like a huge omission.

There definitely not enough features to justify that price. For $60, this does not even come with a battery…
No Aux Port (would only add a few cents to manufacturing cost), and as Kent said, no USB for charging.

I understand why this does not need a radio, but every single BT speaker I own has an AUX port (some have 2, 1 in and 1 out).

Turns out that it does have an aux input, via built-in cable.

Does this charge the battery? I’d hate to have to purchase a separate battery charger AND battery.

      No. It does not.

This, and other power tool brand’s Bluetooth speakers are only a good value if you are already invested in a battery platform.
