Back in February we told you about Porter Cable’s 20V Max cordless brad nailer and stapler, and that a a straight finish nailer, model PCC792, is on the way. Well, it’s just about here, as listings for the new nailer just appeared on Amazon.
The new Porter Cable 16 gauge cordless finish nailer is completely electric, and requires no fuel cells to operate. You probably knew that, but it seemed a reminder couldn’t hurt.

It can work with nails 1″ to 2-1/2″ long, and has a 100 nail magazine.
Porter Cable boasts that the nailer can deliver consistent driving power into various materials, such as baseboard, crown moldings, and cabinet assemblies.
Features include multiple tool-free settings, and multi-functional dual LED lights that provide workspace illumination and also serve as error indicators. PC says that the nailer’s lightweight design and optimal center of gravity provide for user comfort, and allow the nailer to be used in multiple positions.
Street Price: $240 for the kit (another vendor has it for $280), $200 for the bare tool

Amazon’s bare tool price doesn’t seem right, as it’s listed as being more expensive than the kit, but Acme’s looks to more closely match MSRP.

If you have used either of Porter Cable’s cordless nailers yet, what do you think about them? Would you be inclined to give this new 16 ga straight finish nailer a try?

refresh my memory is there a dewalt flavor of this? I already have that battery set so I’d prefer that. But yes this is an item I’d like. I would have to suspect they would be about near each other in capability and usefulness.

Hrmmm,seems kinda pricey for a low end tool. but so are the other PC nailers. 200 bucks for a bare tool will keep me away for awhile.

Well the alternatives bare brad nailer tools are much much more expensive: Milwaukee $350, Rigid/Dewalt $250. So I think this is a pretty aggressive low price offering that will likely be even cheaper in the long run.

I see HD lowered the price of the bare tool Ryobi Airstrike 16ga Finish nailer to $179 from $199 – possibly to undercut Lowes on their sales of this PC.

It doesn’t look like Amazon retails are correct right now. I was in Lowes and saw they were $199 for bare tool and $279 for kit… To John’s point, aggressive price points and value compared to majority of what else is offered in the market.

Since DeWalt bought Porter-Cable, I, too, was under the impression that P-C tools were designed as lower priced versions, while superior to Black and Decker. Why would DeWalt want to compete with itself?

They still consider it a professional brand, but for some product lines a more value-oriented pro brand.
For example, the Porter Cable trim router is $10 less than the Dewalt, and single speed instead of variable speed.
So a little less featured, yes.

Seems to me they’re pretty complementary.

I own a small remod company we have nothing but pc drills saws for cordless an i bought the 16 gage nail gun. Love it its bit slower then pasload or air but shoots better then pasload ihave shoot oak pine 100 year old pine simply love it cant say others are not better but love this one

Well its been over a year now an still love this gun. Still have not had any of my porter cable cordless quite. I been running them longer then the gun.
Here is the bottom line if a drill gets left behind a home owner will not call an say come get your drill. Im out 100 bucks.

Yes I would try it. I have the entire line and use them in my home cabinet shop. I realize this is not commercial use but it is a lot more than your usual do it your self use. I am very impressed with every tool and can’t wait to get my hands on this nailer.
