Over at Toolmonger, Gordon described the assembly process of a Racor HeavyLift cable-lifted storage rack. While his review wasn’t full of gushing praise, he seems to be pleased with the HeavyLift and called it a worthwhile addition for storage in his garage.

I’m going to install one of these, and after it falls on my head and my car, I’m going to sue for damages.

For future reference, the above comments were likely written after reading our recent post about table saw injury lawsuits.

… or at least I hope that was their context!

Stuart is correct, my above comment is referenced to another post. As I am sure uthscsaedu’s post also is.

As for the Cable-Lifted Storage Rack, my neighbor has several of them installed in his garage and they have been there for two years. None of them have fallen on the head of anyone. He swears by them and is always bragging about how much extra storage they provide. In fact, he has them installed directly above where him and his wife park their cars. If I needed extra storage, I definitely would consider installing one or two. They do seem convenient and keep his garage tidy.

But seriously, I know someone that has one and it’s quite useful. I’m considering one myself. The one he has is actually mounted ABOVE the garage door, so that when it’s open, there is no wasted space above the door. I believe his ceiling is higher than a typical garage ceiling, however.

I went to an open house where the owner had one of these in the garage and it was holding his snowblower! In reading the specs it doesn’t look like they are designed for that type of weight, but I guess that was one way to get it out of the way.

The thought of walking under a snowblower hanging from the ceiling isn’t all that pleasing however. I think I would stick to using it for rubbermaid totes full of holiday decorations and other lightweight items that aren’t needed all that often.
