Bolts, Bolts and more Bolts

How many different tools can you use to tighten or loosen nuts and bolts? Many. Check out 10 Torque Tools for Nuts & Bolts over at Popular Mechanics, where I discuss some of the most popular options.

Before you say it, yes, I know, my tools are too clean! I wipe ’em down after every use, and try to keep them in good condition.

You will never regret it JeffD. Wera ratchets are a work of art. I purchased the 3/8″ drive a few months ago. That’s all it took, I decided that I couldn’t live without the 1/4″ and 1/2″ drives. I now have all three sized drives and still can’t get over how much easier they make some jobs. I love em.

In that pic, the Gearwrench is a 1/4″ drive, the Wera Zyklop is 3/8″.

Is that true about turning the adjustable only in the direction of the jaw? I never knew that. I don’t use adjustables much

I would like to mention the Stanley locking adjustable wrench.

A good quality adjustable wrench shouldn’t need a locking mechanism.

If you turn an adjustable in the direction the lower jaw points to, most of the turning force is applied onto the fixed jaw. Use the wrench in the wrong direction, and you can break or deform the movable jaw.
