I had just finished posting about an excellent deal opportunity on Ridgid’s new 18V Gen5X brushless hammer drill and impact driver combo (read about that deal here), when another kit caught my attention.
Ridgid’s upcoming 18V brushless hammer drill kit is expected to be priced at $179, and that’s for the 2x 2.0Ah battery kit.

So how is it that this kit, model R86116SB, is priced at $119? Is that a price mistake? Did somehow the new listing get input with a $119 price tag instead of $179?
Nope! Looking closer, this is the same same drill, in appearance and in regard to features. But this kit comes with a single 2.0Ah Li-ion battery pack.

Personally, I like at least 2 battery packs when I buy into a cordless power tool platform. Most people do. That way you can work on a project with one battery in the tool and the other in the charger or tool bag ready to go.
But if you’re loyal to a battery platform and simply upgrading your tools, or are on a tight budget and plan to buy additional battery packs later on, a single battery tool kit might suffice.
This is a pretty darned good deal. I previously wrote about the best $100 cordless drill kits, and know that it’s a stretch for brands to meet a $100 price point. This kit is $20 more, but you get a brushless motor, 100+ position micro clutch, and the hammer drill functionality.

You don’t get the same charger as the Gen5X brushless combo kit. I’m willing to bet that the R86092 charger that comes with this kit is slower than the regular premium charger as well. If so, one fewer battery and a potentially slower charger might still be worth the bargain price.

I have the Dewalt 296M2 kit and the m12 fuel driver and drill AND the Fein drill and yet I want this. I admit that I’m an addict and I really need help….well actually sating my power tool appetite would be cheaper.

That is an insane deal, no doubt about it. I think I’d still rather pay the premium and get a Milwaukee(if I was in the market)…but if you have any Ridgid 18V tools, this is practically a must buy.

I bought this and while it will do the job I can’t believe the 700 inch pound torque rating. The compact brushless drill from Milwaukee is only rated at 500 inch pounds of torque and it will drive 12 inch lag screws into a stack of 2 x 4’s that this rigid drill with a higher rating will not. If you have Instagram check the video out . I do not like inflated claims or false advertising. Why TTI does this, I have no idea.

Mine only lasted a couple months. Was drilling through a top plate of a framed wall, hit a nail and the transmission just scattered. Destroyed. Ridgid isn’t what it used to be.
