Earlier this month I wrote a post discussing Ridgid’s purported “X5” line of 18V cordless power tools. Most of the major professional and consumer tool brands have been revamping their main cordless lines around new battery technology and brushless motors, and it makes sense that Ridgid is planning to do the same.
A trademark application for the X5 moniker is strongly suggestive that Ridgid is in fact working on successor products to their X4 family of tools. There’s just one problem – existing trademarks are blocking Ridgid’s ability to gain protected status for the X5 mark.

So what does Ridgid do? They skipped ahead and registered the X6 mark instead (serial 85855654). The application covers the same product categories as the possibly soon-to-be-abandoned X5 application – mainly power tools, batteries and chargers, and LED worklights.
The application was actually done by TTI, who holds a licensing agreement with Ridgid to design and produce their power tools for the USA market.
Please note that the image above is for the 18V X4 drill/driver. It’s a great tool and I cannot imagine anything Ridgid could do to make it better, aside from a brushless motor upgrade.
No, this isn’t big news, but I find it interesting how the X5 mark was rejected, prompting for Ridgid to change plans and go for X6. Or maybe they’re just planning ahead and intend to fight for both X5 and X6 marks.

Hi there,i,m from NORTHERN IRELAND(UK).And just wanted to say Ridgid is called AEG in europe and both made along with milwaukee, ryobi etc by tti group.
If you check out Ridgid and AEG website you,ll see identical tools.although avaible tools for each may vary.My point is that AEG has now bought out a BRUSHLESS IMPACT DRIVER AND HAMMER DRILL,on looking at the impact its very very similar to milwaukee brushless effort,SO HANG IN THERE SOON RIDGID WILL HAVE BRUSHLESS MODELS. we also have a AEG BBH18 SDS/rotary hammer drill .
