Deal of the Day: Ridgid Brushless Hammer Drill, Portable Table Saw (07/07/2016)

Jul 7, 2016 Stuart 18 Comments

If you buy something through our links, ToolGuyd might earn an affiliate commission.

Over at Home Depot, their Special Buy of the Day features 2 really good Ridgid tool deals.

The first deal is on a Ridgid 18V Gen5X Brushless cordless hammer drill/driver kit, and the other is on Ridgid’s R4516 portable table saw.

Both of these seem to be holiday-special tools, which to me suggests maybe they are leftover from Father’s Day deals. It also suggests that the supply might not make it through to the end of the day, and that we’re unlikely to see pricing this good again for a while.

These deals are valid thru 4am ET on 7/8/2016, unless supplies run out sooner.

Ridgid R86116K 18V Brushless Hammer Drill

Ridgid’s R86116SB 18V brushless hammer drill kit comes with their latest and greatest cordless drill, but with one catch – the kit only comes with a single 2.0Ah battery pack. Yes, a charger is also included.

That’s the only “gotcha,” making this a very good deal.

When looking at pro-grade drill kits in the $100-125 range, there are often 2 potential tradeoffs to save on cost. Either everything is cheapened a little bit – for lack of a better way of saying it – or only a single battery is included.

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather get a 1-battery kit than a 2-battery kit with inferior components.

Ridgid R4516 Table Saw

Ridgid’s R4516 10″ 15A portable table saw is also on sale, for $199. It has 24″ ripping capacity (right side), and I don’t think I ever noticed it, but it also has a retractable handle and 6-inch wheels for portability.

It’s rare to find a pro-brand jobsite table saw for $200. This deal has come around during past holiday deal seasons, and is likely to come around again in a few months.

But in the meantime, this is the best price on a non-homeowner-grade table saw. The next-best option is Dewalt’s DW745, which is currently a full $100 more expensive.

Usually Homedepot will match Menards 11% off with a rebate of their own. Menards is running the sale this week but the rebate site for HD isn’t listing it yet for July..

I have yet to see this table saw in the wild. I have the version mounted to a gravity rise stand and I really like it. Just need a Centipede stand or folding Keter workbench for this and you are cutting.

Which has me wondering, is there a stand for this saw?

I almost bought a ridgid table saw in stead of my Dewalt. I wanted dado capability if I needed it and I liked the compactness of the scissor stand vs other. since it lives in my garage. I also loved the gear drive table extension and accurate markings for fence placement.

but I have to say the ridgid is good kit too, I’ve used them in the past and they always had good motor speed cut clean and were stable.

I like Todays HD Pro Buy of the day, I first saw one in action in my Local Costco.

All Joking aside the fans are great, and back on to the posted topic, I open the Pro buy of the day email before the regular HD deal of the day.

I will say that the Rigid is very tempting esp, since it is portable. I picked up a Skil table saw one Black friday 4-6 years ago for $59, but I rarely use it, a catch 22 for me because its not portable I store it my Tuff Shed, because its not portable I don’t pull it out and use ot very often lol. Thus my dilemma.

Well this time I can’t blame a tool temptation on Stuart (as I already check HD deals of the day). haha

Regards Big Ass Fans. They have what appear to me to be seasonal sales every few months. I picked up three last winter that way plus they have great I house customer service. Overall a very nice factory direct buy experience.

So looking at it again that ridgid table saw doesn’t come with a stand. the wheels are on the opposite side of the base and the handles pulls out from the side – and you wheel it along.

no stand. honestly I could sort deal with that for the cost – as a home owner. Maybe even look to see if you can get the dewalt scissor stand at a resonable cost and if it would fit the base of the ridgid saw – it might.

Do you guys think Ridgid will release a non hammer brushless drill for their next gen of cordless tools? I think it may be too late release one for their current gen 5x.

No. The hammer is small enough and cheap enough that it fills that need and more nicely. Not really too knowledgeable here but when comparing to lower end Ryobi kits with a regular drills, it seems like a waste to buy a normal drill when the hammer can do it all. The 12v is where its at for smaller jobs IMHO.

Ridgid already has the non hammer drill brushless model available on HomeDepot.

That’s weird, the dimensions are exactly the same. I guess the advantage is weight?

Considering the ridiculous run time on a 4 ah battery, a 2 ah battery doesn’t seem like too much of a “gotcha” specially when it charges so fast. But just having one definitely is a large hindrance.

Something tells me though that people buying this kit will probably already have RIDGID batts.

I’m sure some would appreciate the smaller size and weight of the 2 ah.

    I don’t need a table saw, I don’t need a table saw… But… It’s almost too cheap to pass up…

I personally don’t like hammer drills and the one I do own is corded and I used if for hammer purposes. IE concrete, brick and etc.

I would never use it for wood. This I don’ t see the point of owning a cordless hammer drill and then keeping it mostly with the hammer setting turned off. Might as well buy a quality solid Drill/driver model and use it all the time.

Now instead of a sold out sign they are saying the saw is out of stock online.

I was looking at this in the store the other day. The Ridgid lithium ion tools claim to come with a free lifetime service contract with free parts, free batteries, etc for life. As a homeowner, should I get this and pay a little more up front (vs a combo set from DeWalt or Milwaukee) or should I the better tools with a shorter warranty?
