In addition to introducing the new souped-up Sonicrafter X2, Rockwell is upgrading their entire line of oscillating multi-tools and accessories. The standard version multi-tool, RK5139K, will feature the same tool-free Hyperlock blade change design found on the X2 (RK5140K) model, while the cordless and Shop Series tools share the same updated Universal Fit blade mount design.
Hyperlock Tool-Free Blade Change

Both the standard and X2 Sonicrafters feature a boost in power (2.3A to 2.5A and 3.0A respectively), and the new Hyperlock cam-action design.

Not only does Hyperlock allow for tool-free blade changes, it provides a stronger slip-free grip with what Rockwell claims is the strongest holding power of any tool-free oscillating tool.

Universal Fit
All Rockwell multi-tools will soon feature universal bit/blade/accessory compatibility. Rockwell Universal Fit tools are designed to fit most other brands’ accessories, and the new accessories are designed to fit most other brands’ tools.

Both of the new Hyperlock tools and Rockwell’s cordless Sonicrafter and Shop Series Sonictool all feature the new blade mount design.

Sonicrafter Compatibility
Since Rockwell will be discontinuing their entire current line of tools and accessories, what does this mean for current Sonicrafter owners? We discussed the matter with a Rockwell product manager who assured us that there is a great deal of compatibility between the new Hyperlock multi-tools and previous generation of tools.
Previous Sonicrafter tools are compatible with new universal fit accessories, as long as you use an adapter. The adapter will be included with every new accessory purchase, so there’s actually nothing extra you need to buy.
New Sonicrafter tools are compatible with all older Sonicrafter “hex shaped” accessories without any adapters needed. There is one exception – the original Sonishear scissor attachment will not fit the new Sonicrafter tools, but a new modified version (RW8943) is said to fit properly.

Can hyperlock be added to older model?
Stuart
I don’t think so, but you could always contact Rockwell customer service to see what they can do for you, in case there’s an adapter or retrofit kit. Tool-free blade mechanisms are often (if not always) designed into the tool itself.
