Ryobi has announced new Link accessory rails, which can be used with many of the same hooks and accessories as their larger wall panels.
The new Link rails can be attached to vertical surfaces, such as walls, doors, and the edges of work benches, and also the sides of Link-compatible tool cabinets.

The Ryobi Link rails will be sold in pairs.

They measure 10.5″ x 2.5″ x 1″, and have a weight capacity of 15 lbs.

We’ve seen these Link rails before – Ryobi includes similar with their Speed Bench Mobile Workstation.

The rails are compatible with the following Ryobi Link steel wall cabinets:
- STM405 Wall Mounted Cabinet
- STM406 Lockable Tool Organizer Cabinet
- STM407 Open Tool Organizer Cabinet

Ryobi also shows the Link rails being used outside the garage or tool room, such as attached to a closet door and loaded with home cleaning supplies.

Users can install the two Rails separately, or combine them end-to-end for seamless installation.
Price: $14.97 (pair)
ETA: September 2024

Ryobi Link products and accessories are exclusively available at Home Depot.
Discussion

For context, here’s what the full-size wall rails look like. While the full-size rails are larger and designed to be connected together horizontally or vertically into larger panels, the new rails are much shorter.
The smaller size and mounting points does limit the load rating, but makes the new rails more suitable for use in certain applications and usage environments.
In addition to the lower weight capacity, not all Link system accessories can be attached to the new rails, especially if they’re not installed adjacent to each other.
I’d say that this seems like a fair tradeoff, sacrificing some strength and compatibility for a much lower profile.

The price isn’t outrageous, and the concept is interesting. I think an expansive and flexible “system” is essential to making a storage scheme like this worthwhile.
The in-home promo shots just remind me how much I really hate the Ryobi green though.

The colour completing puts me off. Even though they have a couple of tools I could make use of, I can’t deal with the colour
Rog
I wish they would move the green to more of an complimentary/accent color and use black or dark gray as their primary
Bonnie
Spray paint is cheap.

I’m really interested to learn more about staining or dyeing. Something better than using a permanent marker.

Interesting but really primitive in the amount of space it needs and how it looks, etc. Would have been great twenty years ago.

I haven’t used the system. I wonder if the blocky/primitive design makes it any easier to use without having to get things exactly lined up. It looks kind of self-aligning with angled edges everywhere.

An effective clamp storage attachment for something like this would be a seller in my eyes…even though Ryobi doesn’t make clamps

It’s nice to have a lower profile option. But their use case example with placement of the Link hooks on the workbench right at crotch height is questionable. 😬
Stuart
Yikes, good point! I’d place hooks at the side, and maybe a bin box at the front, if anything.
David Z
The front could be handy for temporary use, like holding a drill or container of hardware, when assembling something or the bench top is covered (or cluttered!). At least the connector brackets are flat and have rounded edges for when not on use.

This makes sense to come out with. The main rails are too large for some locations. I designed and 3d printed a single piece of rail to hold my 1 gallon vacuum, this product would have saved me that time.
Jared
It looks a little bulky, clunky and loud (when you combine the rails with lime green accessories) – but also easy to use. I don’t see an especially strong reason to buy these rails in their own right, but if you were already a Ryobi Link user… obviously this expands the utility of that system.

I like how the Milwaukee Pack Out attachment system works for both horizontal and vertical, and they are also scalable. I found the third party PO compatible single attachment cleats are the most compact and cheapest.

I like the idea especially for batteries. The problem in my location is that there are four Home Depot’s within 20 miles and none of them stock the rails or the attachments. Being an online only item is off putting. I have a need for both 18 and 40 volt battery storage but have hesitated as I prefer to shop in store.
