Friday afternoon I posted about a couple of great ball bearing tool storage deals I spotted over at Sears. As discussed in that post, there are two Craftsman DynaGlide ball bearing tool storage cabinets on sale for just $140 each, which is an excellent deal in my book.
The product pages on Sears.com says “FREE Delivery” in bold letters, making the deals even sweeter. Each Craftsman cabinet weighs about 100 lbs, which means they ship via truck/freight, and not UPS, and so delivery fees of ~$70 typically apply.

But as a commenter pointed out, Sears actually tacks on a $69.99 delivery fee to the orders.
It says FREE Delivery…
But there’s a $69.99 charge for delivery services.
I’m sorry if the deal post disappointed anyone. For anyone who is looking to buy these ball bearing cabinets but doesn’t want to spend the $70 for delivery, there’s still the option of free in-store pickup.

I recall going through the same thing trying to get a particular middle box a couple of years ago. The site advertised free delivery, but when I tried to order it was disallowed repeatedly, since none were in stock locally.
So I went into my local Sears and tried to buy it, but it was “out of stock”.
A year later that same location had a big toolbox closeout sale, and I got that very middle box, picked off a stack 5 or 6 high. Covered with dust on a pallet brought from the back. Of course on-line it was still “out of stock”, even though I left the rest on the floor, and most were still there a few days later.
I’d like to help Sears, but they can’t seem to hear me over the sound of shooting themselves in the foot.

Sears is dead to me. They tried to do this to me on an appliance delivery, so I cancelled. Not buying from Sears again. Never the lowest price, and I’ve rarely had decent service.

I’m not particularly disappointed, since I didn’t want it anyway, but I am annoyed. I don’t know what constitutes false advertising by the letter of the law, but to the layman, this is probably it. I don’t like any company that resorts to these tactics to bait me. So thanks for the heads up.

Thats messed up, I wonder what someone could do as you can’t ask the sales clerk to call the manager since its online. I wonder if a phone call would fix this

It’s a rare day that I step foot in a Sears anymore. Between them going the cheap route with most of their products now being made in China, to their absymal customer service, it’s no wonder they appear to be on the brink of disappearing.

Sears Tools and their Lawn and Garden sections are my only man refuge when the family is shopping at the Mall. This won’t save them because Mall shopping is way, way down nationwide, so they need to get their inventory and website act together.

Tricky Sears. I purchased a hot water heater from Sears and they charged me $175 for the township permit.I called the township and found the permit was only $100 contacted Sears and got a refund.Had trouble with heater no hot water .Contacted Sears and told I could get a service appointment in two weeks. Great two weeks no hot water.

The sad part is, it wouldn’t take much for Sears to actually offer free delivery for such items.
Most Sears stores have a big box trailer truck they use to deliver large appliances, and that they used to use when they sold larger furniture items, but they could easily invest in a more fuel-efficient smaller box truck to deliver more common sizes of refrigerators, freezers, tool boxes, and other larger items that customers with just sedans can’t expect to pick up and transport by themselves.
They could easily make user-selectable options via the internet, or calling to the store, for delivery dates and times, so they can deliver multiple items in a particular area of town each day or half of the day.
In this day and age, where you can get a full size tool cart delivered via amazon for free, Sears is left in the dust because they don’t implement such options, even though it would take almost nothing for them to do so. Just think of how many more customers they would have, how many more tool boxes and appliances they would sell if they offered such a delivery option and if it were easy to use.

I posted this on the other thread but haven’t seen anyone respond. I just bought the 3 piece set. Ironically, I couldn’t order the set for the same price at sears, as it “wasn’t available”. But, I was able to get each piece individually, for the same amount, and will pick it up tomorrow in the same store.
Also, I don’t understand what the difference is between the 2 different Heavy Duty 26″ sets. The one cabinet is $139, while the other, with same specs is $244. Only thing I see different is the wheels on it. Model #113613 is $140, Model #113616 is $244. I don’t think fancier wheels are worth $104 extra.
What am I missing?

John, how did that pick-it-up go?
